Turkish term or phrase: ekol
Greetings,

If I remember rightly, my Turkish teacher said:
“Lost” bir ekol.”

She was speaking about the TV programme “Lost”. I think she meant that it was seminal, that it had massive importance, that it was something that all Turks had experienced and been influenced by, but I'm really not sure of the exact meaning of her words.

All the best, and many thanks,

Simon

Explanation:
Ekol, from the French "école" literally means school, but in Turkish it applies rather to a school of thought or a philosophy.

cult

Explanation:
I believe "cult "can be used here. We also use it for films; " "kült film".

exceptional

Explanation:
If your teacher has said "Lost bir ekol", the best answer is exceptional. Recently "kült" is being used for "ekol". But this is widely wrong usage. The cult movies are like Space Odessey, Star Trek & Star Wars. Because they have still fan websites and they are still being developed.

Example sentence(s):
  • An Exceptional movie, a great aspect of the future, and one of the best futuristic movies I have ever seen, others that fit this category are; Aeon Flux, Equilibrium, V for Vendetta, Escape from New York, and escape from L.A.
