Lades! Accept a bet Explanation: Lades is a betting game between 2 people (generally children but I've seen some adults playing it too) and in actual fact is the Turkish name for the V shape chest bones (wishbone) in poultry animals. The betters hold the V shape bone from both ends and break it and say 'let the betting begin' (Lades !) and the game starts. When there is no wishbones availabe, the betters lock their little fingers and shake it off shouting Lades ! to start the game. The winner has to hand something in (except food or beverage of any kind) to the other and say Lades ! If the other person is too busy doing something and does not remember the betting in the first 30 seconds or so, is considered to be fooled and loses the game. If he/she remembers and says 'aklımda' meaning it's in my mind and you can't fool me; betting continues. Long story short, the word Lades ! is told outloud when starting and ending the game and literally in the begining it means "Accept a Bet" and in the end it's meaning is more like an exclamation of " Wining the Bet" . PS There can be an agreed prize for the winner which of course to be bought by the looser in some cases. |
