Sand dunes as far as the eye can see. A GOAT HERDER and his HERD OF GOATS walk through frame. He looks out, over the sand dunes, and we SEE the GREAT PYRAMID OF GIZA. It’s an aweinspiring sight. Suddenly VROOM! A TACKY TOUR BUS enters the frame and races through the spot where the goat herder and his herd were just standing. GOAT HERDER Whoa! The goat herder is left coughing in the dust left by the bus. EXT: TOUR BUS - SAME A BRATTY KID squashes his face up against the window of the bus and lowers his sunglasses to get a better view. The bus screeches to a halt. The bulk of the tourists pile out of the bus. Then the last TOURIST FAMILY piles out, Bratty Kid leading the pack attached to a Kid Leash. TOURIST MOM Justin! Egyptian guards stand behind a roped-off area that surrounds the Pyramid of Giza. The Tourist Dad stands with the Pyramid in the background, holding out his hand so it looks like he’s holding it. TOURIST DAD Quick honey, take my picture! I got the pyramid in my hand! The Tourist Mom snaps a couple of pictures, when through her viewfinder she sees JUSTIN running off into the distance. We see FOOTAGE of FRENCH POLICE guarding the EIFFEL TOWER, a huge line of CHINESE POLICE guarding the GREAT WALL OF CHINA and a REDNECK with a shotgun guarding the WORLD’S LARGEST BEER CAN. NEWSCASTER Law enforcement still has no leads, leaving everyone to wonder: which of the world’s villains is responsible for this heinous crime? And where will he strike next? EXT: PARK - DAY Gru walks through the park and sees a CHILD. The child is 7 sad about a dropped ice cream cone. He stops and makes the child a balloon animal. Source text - English EXT. LATE 1942. THE SAHARA DESERT. DAY. SILENCE. THE DESERT seen from the air. An ocean of dunes for mile after mile. The late sun turns the sand every color from crimson to black. An old AEROPLANE is flying over the Sahara. Its shadow swims over the contours of sand. A woman's voice begins to sing unaccompanied on the track. Szerelem, szerelem, she cries, in a haunting lament for her loved one. INSIDE the aeroplane are two figures. Beneath it A SUDDEN CLUSTER OF MEN AND MACHINES, camouflage nets draped over the sprawl of gasoline tanks and armored vehicles. An OFFICER, GERMAN, focuses his field glasses. The glasses pick out the MARKINGS on the plane. They are English. An ANTI-AIRCRAFT GUN swivels furiously. Shocking bursts of GUNFIRE. Explosions rock the plane, which lurches violently. THE WOMAN SLUMPS FORWARD, slamming her head against the instruments. The pilot grabs her, pulls her back, but she's not conscious. The fuel tank above their heads is punctured. It sprays them both, then EXPLODES. THE MAN FALLS OUT OF THE SKY, clinging to his dead lover. They are both ON FIRE. She is wrapped in a parachute silk and it burns fiercely. He looks up to see the flames licking at his own parachute as it carries them slowly to earth. Even his helmet is on fire, but the man makes no sound as the flames erase all that matters - his name, his past, his face, his lover… EXT. THE DESERT. 1942. DAY. THE PILOT HAS BEEN RESCUED BY BEDOUIN TRIBESMEN. Behind them the wreckage of the plane, still smoking, the Arabs picking over it. A SILVER THIMBLE glints in the sun, is retrieved. Another man comes across A LARGE LEATHER-BOUND BOOK and takes it over to the Pilot. The Pilot is charred. His helmet has melted into his head. He's oblivious to this, cares only about the woman who crashed with him. He twists frantically to find her. Two men pick him up and carry him across to a litter where they carefully wrap him in blankets. EXT. THE DESERT. DUSK. The Pilot is being carried across the desert. A mask covers his face. His view of the world is through the slats of reed. He glimpses camels, fierce low sun, the men who carry him. EXT. AN OASIS. DUSK. The Pilot sees a man squat down beside him, takes a date from a sack and begin to chew it. Carefully, the Bedouin eases the mask from the Pilot's face, leaving bandages of cloth and oil, but revealing a mouth. He stops chewing and passes the pulped date into the Pilot's mouth. Mouth to mouth. EXT. DESERT. DAWN. THE CARAVANSERAI CROSSES THE DESERT, silhouetted against the dunes. EXT. AN OASIS. NIGHT. The SOUND OF GLASS, of tiny chimes. A music of glass. AN ARAB HEAD APPEARS ON A MOVING TABLE IN THE DESERT. It floats in darkness, shimmering from the light of a fire. The image develops to reveal a man carrying a giant wooden yoke from which hang DOZENS OF SMALL GLASS BOTTLES, on different lengths of string and wire. He could be an angel. The man approaches the litter which carries the Pilot. He's still in the protective reed mask, wrapped in blankets. The MERCHANT DOCTOR stands over the burned body and sinks sticks either side of him deep into the sand, then moves away, free of the yoke, which balances in the support of the two crutches. He puts some liquid in the Pilot's tongue, whose eyes almost instantly begin to roll. Then he slowly sets about peeling away the layers of oiled cloth which protect the Pilot's flesh. The Merchant Doctor crouches in front of the curtain of bottles and MAKES A SKIN CUP with the soles of his feet, then leans back to pluck, hardly looking, certain bottles, which he uncorks and mixes in the bowl he'd made with his feet. This mixture he uses to anoint the burned skin. Next he finds green-black PASTE - ground Peacock Bone - and BEGINS TO RUB IT on to the Pilot's rib cage. All the while he us humming and chanting. The bottles continue to jingle. EXT. ITALIAN HILL ROAD. EARLY 1945. DAY. The sand gives way to trees, the jingling bottles to distant church bells, as A CONVOY OF TWENTY TRUCKS - Red Cross vehicles and some supply vehicles - snakes along a bumpy hill road. The war in Italy is largely over and the Allies are moving up the country, the wounded and supply lines slowly following. INT. RED CROSS TRUCK. DAY. A young CANADIAN NURSE, HANA, sits in a truck full of patients. Hana pays special care to the PATIENT lying in the stretcher alongside her. This is the PILOT - now known as THE ENGLISH PATIENT. A web of scars covers the Patient's face and body. They have the quality of a livid tattoo, magenta and green-black. The hair has largely gone and the effect is curious, lassoing his features, the strong nose, the eyes liquid. It's a warrior's face. But he has no physical strength. He coughs violently as the trucks shudders along the road. EXT. ITALIAN HILL ROAD. DAY. A JEEP pulls out of the line and approaches the Red Cross truck containing Hana and the Patient. The horn blows and Hana looks out to see it contains her best friend, JAN. TWO YOUNG SOLDIERS sit up front, one driving, both grinning. Jan signals for Hana's attention. JAN There's meant to be lace in the next village - the boys are taking me. HANA I'm not sewing anything else. JAN (mischievously) You don't have any money, do you? Just in case there's silk. HANA No! JAN Hana, I know you do! Hana leans under the tarpaulin, holding some DOLLARS. The two hands - hers and Jan's - reach for each other as the vehicles bump along side by side. They laugh at the effort. Jan's GOLD BRACELET catches the sun and glints. HANA I'm not sewing anything else for you! JAN (getting the money) I love you. The Jeep accelerates away. Hana sighs to the patient. Suddenly AN EXPLOSION shatters the calm as the jeep runs over a MINE. The jeep is THROWN into the air. The convoy halts and there's chaos as soldiers run back pulling people out of the vehicles. Hana runs the other way, towards the accident, until she is prevented from passing by a soldier. EXT. ITALIAN HILL ROAD. LATER. -- and there's still chaos as two SAPPERS arrive on motorcycles. One of them, a SIKH, wears a turban. The motorcycles arrive at the front of the convoy. A nurse, MARY, is helping a doctor, OLIVER, attend to the injured driver. The other two bodies are covered with blankets. There's blood everywhere. The Sikh and his colleague pull out the paraphernalia of their bomb disposal equipment.	Translation - Spanish EXT. FINALES DE 1942 - DESIERTO SAHARIANO - DÍA SILENCIO. EL DESIERTO visto desde el aire. Un océano de dunas se extiende kilómetro tras kilómetro. El sol poniente tiñe la arena de todos los colores desde el carmesí al negro. Un viejo AEROPLANO vuela sobre el Sahara. Su sombra surca por encima las superficies de arena. Los prismáticos llegan a distinguir la MARCA DE NACIONALIDAD del avión. Es inglesa. UNA ARMA ANTIAÉREA gira furiosamente. Sobrecogedoras ráfagas de FUEGO DE ARTILLERÍA. Las explosiones sacuden el avión, el cual se balancea violentamente. LA MUJER es disparada hacia adelante, golpeándose la cabeza contra los mandos. Una mascara cubre su rostro. Su visión del mundo se limita a lo que puede ver a través de las ranuras de la máscara de junco. Alcanza a ver camellos, un fiero sol poniente, los hombres que lo acarrean. EXT. APARECE LA CABEZA DE UN ÁRABE EN UNA MESA EN MOVIMIENTO EN EL DESIERTO. Flota en la oscuridad, reluce a la luz de una hoguera. La imagen se transforma hasta mostrar a un hombre acarreando un enorme yugo de madera del que cuelgan DOCENAS DE BOTELLITAS DE CRISTAL, atadas con hilos y alambres de diferentes longitudes. Podría ser un ángel. El hombre se acerca a la camill que acoge al Piloto. Este todavía lleva la máscara protectora de junco, está envuelto con mantas. El CURANDERO se sitúa enfrente del cuerpo quemado y clava profundamente en la arena un palo a cada lado, luego se aparta, liberado del yugo que descansa en el soporte proporcionado por los dos apoyos. Vierte un líquido en la lengua del Piloto, casi instantáneamente los ojos de este se ponen en blanco. Luego, lentamente, comienza a retirar las capas de tela aceitosa que protegen la carne del Piloto. El Curandero se agacha enfrente de la cortina de botellas y FORMA UN RECIPIENTE DE PIEL con las suelas de los pies, luego se echa hacia atrás, para coger, casi sin mirar, ciertas botellas, que descorcha y mezcla en el cuenco formado por sus pies. Utiliza esta mezcla para ungir la piel quemada. A continuación, coge una PASTA verdinegra —Hueso de Pavo Real molido— y COMIENZA A FROTARLA sobre el tórax del Piloto. La guerra en Italia está prácticamente terminada y los Aliados están avanzando hacia el norte del país, los heridos y las líneas de suministro los siguen lentamente. INT. CAMIÓN DE LA CRUZ ROJA - DÍA Una joven ENFERMERA CANADIENSE, HANA, está sentada en un camión lleno de pacientes. Hana presta especial atención al PACIENTE tumbado en la camilla cercana a ella. Este es el PILOTO —ahora conocido como EL PACIENTE INGLÉS—. Una telaraña de cicatrices cubre el rostro y el cuerpo del Paciente. Estas cicatrices se asemejan a un lívido tatuaje, magenta y verdinegro. El cabello ha desaparecido prácticamente y el efecto resulta curioso, pone de relieve sus facciones, la prominente nariz, los ojos líquidos. Es el rostro de un guerrero. Pero no tiene fortaleza física. Tose violentamente al tiempo que el camión va dando bandazos por la carretera. EXT. CARRETERA DE MONTAÑA ITALIANA - DÍA UN JEEP abandona la fila y se aproxima al camión de la Cruz Roja en el que se encuentran Hana y el Paciente. Suena la bocina, Hana se asoma y ve que en el jeep está su mejor amiga, JAN. DOS JÓVENES SOLDADOS están sentados en los asientos delanteros, uno conduce, los dos sonríen. Jan intenta atraer la atención de Hana mediante gestos. JAN Parece que tienen encaje en el próximo pueblo - me llevan los chicos. HANA No pienso coser nada más. JAN (con picardía) ¿No tendrás algo de dinero, no? Por si tienen seda. HANA ¡No! JAN Hana, ¡sé que lo tienes! Hana se asoma bajo la lona, tiene unos DÓLARES en la mano. Las dos manos —la suya y la de Jan— intentan acercarse mientras los vehículos van dando botes uno al lado del otro. Se ríen de lo complicado que resulta. El BRAZALETE DE ORO de Jan brilla al sol. HANA ¡No pienso coserte nada más! JAN (cogiendo el dinero) Te quiero. El jeep acelera y se marcha. Hana suspira mirando al Paciente. De repente UNA EXPLOSIÓN rompe la calma cuando el jeep pisa una MINA. El jeep SALTA por los aires. El convoy se para y reina el caos mientras los soldados se apresuran a sacar a la gente de los vehículos. Hana corre en dirección contraria, hacia el lugar del accidente, hasta que un soldado le impide continuar. EXT. - CARRETERA DE MONTAÑA ITALIANA - MÁS TARDE -- y el caos continua cuando dos ZAPADORES llegan en moto. Uno de ellos, de religión SIKH, lleva turbante. Las motos llegan a la cabeza del convoy. Una enfermera, MARY, ayuda a un doctor, OLIVER, a atender al conductor herido. Los otros dos cuerpos están cubiertos con mantas. Hay sangre por todos los lados. El Sikh y su compañero sacan el material perteneciente a su equipo de desactivación de explosivos.

Bio

I am a native Spanish and Basque translator with 15 years of experience.
Having studied cinema and cinema lighting, and having worked as electrician and
gaffer for more than five years on different film productions in the UK, I have
a strong cinema background. Therefore, I am very familiar with film
terminology, e.g. screenplay terms or film production jargon.

15 years ago I finished (with Distinction) an Audiovisual Translation MA at
City University London. During these past years I have worked with different
companies of the field translating and subtitling (I own a EZTitles license) documentaries, feature films,
and series that have been broadcast on online streaming platforms and TV
channels such as Netflix, HBO, BBC Worldwide or Discovery MAX. Since June
2013, I collaborate with In-Edit, a music documentary festival, for whom I have
subtitled into Spanish more than 40 documentaries. Also, in 2015 I began
working as Quality Controller for a well known streaming platform. And, last but not least, since
2016, I work as live subtitle projectionist at the San Sebastian, Seville and
Gijón film festivals.

I consider myself a hardworking and reliable professional, and I am grateful
for doing a job that I enjoy and which gives me the chance to learn a bit more
every day.
