English to French: Knitting and Printing General field: Tech/Engineering Detailed field: Textiles / Clothing / Fashion
Source text - English Since last September, a new and valuable tool has been added to our premises: an entire knitting workshop that now allows our designers to create new stylistic effects with regard to fabrics, patterns and colour mixes, no longer resorting only to printing, but using traditional techniques that have become so rare.
Both knitting and digital printing techniques are now used, either separately or in combination in order to offer our designers an even broader range of possibilities and enabling them to make the most of the model they have to work from.
The essential and delicate operation of mending dropped stitches consists of checking each stitch in each panel and in manually bringing all the stitches that have dropped during the machine process back up through the knitting
Ironing on steaming tables is crucial as it resets the panels to their correct dimensions makes assembling easier ….
English to French: Swords, Helmets & Shields General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Advertising / Public Relations
Source text - English In post-Renaissance paintings, graphic arts, photography or cinema, European ancient civilisations are quite often exclusively portrayed and characterized with armed men. In accounts or legends throughout the ages these men have been called by many names: they can be by turns ‘Barbarians’ or ‘Civilized men’, ‘Soldiers’, ‘Warriors’ or ‘Mercenaries’, ‘Knights’ or ‘Foot soldiers’. With its collection of protohistoric and ancient weapons as a starting point, the X Museum proposes to leave the truisms and clichés generated by these powerful images behind and to confront archaeological data with sculptures, paintings, drawings or engravings.
The idea of organising a meeting between archaeology and art was well received by the lenders: XX. This gathering of some hundred archaeological objects, works of art and images, gives the viewer the opportunity of marvelling at the supposed universality of warfare. Questioning the way we perceive war…
