Bio

In Feb 2017 I won the prestigious translation competition by Literature Translation Institute of Korea by translating Selected Writings of Yeon-am, a Korean classic. The book info can be found here: http://library.klti.or.kr/node/30970, and the award announcement here: https://www.ltikorea.or.kr/mo/notices/1168.do. I am currently working with Korea's SK Group, translating chairman Chey Tae-won's speeches at international conferences such as Davos Forum.

I have lived in English-speaking countries for nearly 30 years and speak fluent English. I have received intensive writing training through University of Chicago, Harvard, and Oxford, so when it comes to writing papers I am more comfortable in English than in Korean. I studied English linguistics at Oxford, and my MLitt thesis, which studies the issue of transitivity, has received high praises from the examiners (the reviews are downloadable in my profile under Education section). Furthermore, I have published papers in top academic journals including a Cambridge journal and a top encyclopedia. In the practical field I have been active in writing education, translation, and lexicography; working, researching, giving talks, and publishing in these areas.

There are two important facts about academic translation. First, the translator must himself be a good academic as well as a good translator to be able to understand and handle the academic content properly. Second, I have often seen cases where native-English-speaker proofreaders, even high-profile ones, are unable to find errors in the initial translations from Korean to English. As a native speaker of Korean with academic skills confirmed by a strong publication record, I will give you the best academic translation you can ever find.
