Riddles and conundrums are what inspires me and what has led me to Translation Studies; every text and every narrative is a system that has to be understood, dissected, and then reassembled in the target language.
My main specialty - both in literary and AV translation - is speculative fiction. That allows me to use my expertise in the fields of translation and experimental archaeology.
I focus on self development in all of the areas - my work, Translation Studies, and my hobbies (reenactment, speculative fiction, and crafts) that actually are helpful when translating texts set in historical or quasi-historical settings. Even though my hobbies are about the past, I am also a huge fan of science-fiction and speculative fiction as a whole. In fact, in my dissertation I have presented how sci-fi retains a certain level of verisimilitude and what does it mean for the Translation Theory when applied to the genre; the dissertation received a distinction as one of the few best works that year.
Dissertation: Is Techno Babble Redundant? Translating Specialised Language in Science-Fiction Movies and TV Series in the Light of Relevance Theory and Practical Constraints of Subtitling Graded 5 (A) and awarded with a distinction (received on 10.01.2018)
Extra-translational traits
Extensive knowledge about all things nerdy. Be it video games, tabletop games, speculative fiction or popculture - I will know that or at least know how to learn it at moment's notice.
I work out of passion - made a huge leap of faith (in fact, risked starving) when decided to give 100% of my time to translation instead of staying at cozy dayjob. I will polish the translation, it will be my child, so to speak.
Communicative - just ask, make some contact. I will answer (every mail!) and provide every single bit of information you need. When I return the translation, you will get a file with comments concerning every single controversial choice or tricky part of the text with my explanation.
Workaholic - when I start, it's hard for me to stop. This means I stick by the deadline; not even because that's the professional way (though that's also the primary reason) but because I simply cannot stop.
Perfectionism - cannot sleep (literally, physically) if I know that something could have been done better.
