Bio

Hi there!

My name is Eva Corijn. I grew up in a bilingual English-Dutch environment in Indonesia. Later, I lived in Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong and Belgium before settling in Sweden, where I now spend my days eating too many cinnamon buns and learning how to queue like a proper Swede.

I've been working as a professional translator since 2017, translating from Dutch/Swedish into English. I'm a member of the Swedish Association of Professional Translators (SFÖ).

Specialisation

Because of my interest in creative writing and my background as a communication professional, I specialise in translations on the creative side of the spectrum. Think children's novels, rousing NGO newsletters, articles about climate change or magical texts for a travel blog!

I also take on more general translations like annual reports, HR vacancies, policy documents, web copy, press releases, marketing brochures etc.

Experience

Before becoming a full-time translator, I built a successful career in the communication sector, working for a range of NGOs, humanitarian aid organisations and government bodies. This taught me useful things like how to run a vaccination campaign in Malawi when it's pushing 35°C, but also how to really make a text sparkle.

A few days a month, I work at Sveriges Radio (Sweden's national radio broadcaster) as one of their English-language journalists, presenting the news on air.

Education

I have an MA in Languages and Cultures from Ghent University (with a minor in Scandinavian Languages) and an MSc in International Relations from the University of Gothenburg. I've also taken courses in Communication, Creative Writing and Narrative Theory (Linnaeus University, Berghs School of Communication, Folkuniversitetet.) Some have declared me bonkers, but I've also just signed up to learn Welsh!
