Source text - English Twas the eve of Tet and a little boy stood
By his mom, eating as much as he could
He ate and ate, and ate some more
Such greed, his mum could not ignore.
Through the window the boy was shown,
a little old woman, sitting…alone.
“She’s all alone” said mum to Xuan
“So let’s share a little Tet with her my son.”
“What good is enjoying all this delicious food,
If you can’t share, and lighten someone else’s mood.
A peculiar sight, a delicious dessert
Was soon on its way, wrapped in a shirt.
And at the gift the boy smiled and stared.
For now he knew good things were better shared.
Translation - Vietnamese Đêm giao thừa cậu bé Xuân đứng đó
Bên mẹ hiền, ăn ngấu nghiến hăng say
Cậu ăn lấy ăn để, chẳng buồn hay
Lòng tham đó làm chạnh lòng người mẹ.
Mẹ chỉ cho cậu qua cửa sổ nhỏ bé,
một bà già ngồi đó, giữa lặng thinh.
Mẹ bảo Xuân “Bà ấy chỉ một mình”
Con hãy chia mùa xuân cùng bà ấy.”
“Tốt đẹp chi khi con ăn ngon như vậy,
Mà không thắp sáng lên tâm trạng một người.
Món tráng miệng giữa khung cảnh đẹp tươi
Vừa được gói gọn gàng trong tà áo.
Bên món quà, Xuân mỉm cười tuy còn gượng gạo.
Vì cậu biết rằng thứ tốt đẹp nên được sẻ chia.
