Bit difficult Feb 15, 2019

A bit difficult unless you go to a Powwow, especially as there are no in-person conferences these days.

I feel a sort of camaraderie among proz users in my pair, particularly contributors to the kudoz section, which is where I'm most active. However, my own ideal of friendship is of a more traditional kind, which existed before computers and networking. It's like the difference between Facebook "friends" who you might never meet in real life, and the non-virtual ones you actually come into physical contact with.

Yes! Feb 15, 2019

In addition to developing a number of lovely cyber-relationships, I looked up three of them when I traveled to Brazil.

Over the years I’ve developed an online friendship with two Portuguese translators, both Prozians.

Many people hate truth and reality.

I made several good friends in ProZ. Many of them have shared or passed jobs to me. I met Gilmar Fernandes personally, and I only didn't meet Muriel personally because of a small misunderstanding on our plans. But we still will, right Muriel?
Plus, we can always participate in the meetings organized by colleagues and meet some personally. I haven't yet, but I will as soon as I can.

Considering the Merriam-Webster definition
friend noun
\ ˈfrend \
Definition of friend (Entry 1 of 2)

1a : one attached to another by affection or esteem
She's my best friend.
b : ACQUAINTANCE

2a : one that is not hostile
Is he a friend or an enemy?
b : one that is of the same nation, party, or group
showbiz friends

3 : one that favors or promotes something (such as a charity)
this trend has alarmed friends of the liberal arts
— Raymond Walters
The friends of the library will host a fund-raiser.

4 : a favored companion

5 capitalized : a member of a Christian sect that stresses Inner Light, rejects sacraments and an ordained ministry, and opposes war
— called also Quaker
While we are in the same field, I'm using ProZ to learn more about the trade--not doing biz here, the community is less of 'familiar competitors'. However, I accept no virtual friends, only helpers and well-wishers, that's why pen-friends seems quite reasonable, perhaps)
