I don't [expletive deleted, but sorely missed for emphasis] know. Who has the time - or the inclination - to work out things like this anyway? Not me. Meanwhile, back in the real world, I'm currently engaged in trying to find which of my clients haven't paid the income tax for which I billed them last year, which is taking up more than enough of my precious time.
It's totally irrelevant anyway. I never do an average job. It's like the average person - doesn't exist. On my current worksheet I have jobs - done or in progress - for 75 Danish Kroner (Minimim rate for a non-profit client) up to DKK 48743 - which is large for me. The job for DKK 48743 will keep me out of mischief until the middle of next month, so the average for anything I do alongside it will be lower than normal. I have even persuaded the tax au... The job for DKK 48743 will keep me out of mischief until the middle of next month, so the average for anything I do alongside it will be lower than normal. I have even persuaded the tax authorities that it is a waste of time to work out my average monthly earnings, because some months I take a break and earn nothing at all. They adjust my pension at the end of the year, and fiddling about along the way is just unnecessary administration. ▲ Collapse
Average? No idea! My minimum rate is 40 EUR (45 USD)…

Half what I deserve :-) | May 8, 2019 |
The maths isn't that hard: $5,000,000 per month divided by 500 jobs a month equals $10,000 average per job I came out around $300. | | | Ricki Farn Germany Local time: 09:33 English to German
If the criterion is what we deserve, I demand to be paid on average one chocolate cake in addition to any project fee. A larger-than-average one. Apart from that: no idea. | | | Michael Harris Germany Local time: 09:33 Member (2006) German to English | 100-200 euros | May 8, 2019 |
The more the merrier. Use TO3000, set a time period, divide sales by number of jobs. Philippe

Too Much To Mention | May 8, 2019 |
Anyway, here in the USA, what someone makes in exchange for their work is thought of as a verboten topic, nobody's business, unless you're somebody who's consistently in the public eye like, over here, Oprah, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Warren Buffet, and, of course, as of yesterday again, Donald Trump! | | | Mario Freitas Brazil Local time: 05:33 Member (2014) English to Portuguese + ... It varies immensely. There is no such a thing as an average. | | | Trends in translation | May 8, 2019 |
I found this question both relevant and interesting. When I first began translating, jobs were small and numerous, but over the years, the trend has reversed itself. Instead of many small jobs, I tend to attract larger projects of 10,000-15,000 words or (much) more, placing me in the $400-$800 range as an average.
It's hard to measure. So far this year it's US$ 1,452; last year it was $667. I agree: it's irrelevant. More meaningful would be the average number of hours one works in the week or how many days in the year.
