Most trips are professional development related, so I'm not sure if that counts. The only time it happened to me, it did me no good at all. It must have been about 30 years ago. For several months I had been getting small but regular jobs, two or three a week, from a certain agency. Then I attended a meeting organized by the Translators' Guild (forerunner of the ITI) in London, where one of the speakers was the head of this agency. I did so, and from that day on, I never had another word from them.
