Over the last ten years Indonesia and the US have only been involved in personnel exchange and joint exercise programs no more than a dozen times. “Throughout 2008 we will carry out at least 125 personnel exchange and joint exercise programs. So these opportunities are increasing significantly. Improvements are not only quantitative, but also qualitative in that we also want to share technological advances with TNI,” said Keating. According to Keating, his visit to Indonesia this week, which is his second visit since taking office in 2007, is very important to emphasize the significance of Indonesia-US military cooperation. “Cooperation between the US Pacific Command and Indonesia is very good”, said Keating from Dayton, Ohio, who graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1971. He said that the US Pacific Command is committed to helping Indonesia improve maritime security. The US will help Indonesia in various ways. He is convinced the US Pacific Command can help Indonesia in creating maritime security by, amongst other things, improving cooperation and the exchange of information and training.
