Familiarization with this manual’s contents will improve the Drill’s performance and provide a long trouble free service life. HYDRACORE STANDARD WARRANTY It is agreed that there are no warranties, express or implied, made by Hydracore Drills Ltd., except its following standard warranty. Hydracore Drills Ltd. warrants each new Hydracore Drill and related parts sold by Hydracore to be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service for ninety days from the date of first use, but not to exceed six months from the date of shipment. The obligation under this warranty is limited to the replacement or repair at the Delta, BC plant of Hydracore, or at a point designated by Hydracore, of such part or parts as shall appear upon inspection at this point to have been defective in material or workmanship at the time sold, provided that the part or parts claimed defective are returned to the inspection point, transportation charges prepaid. This warranty applies only to new and unused Hydracore Drills and parts, which, after shipment from the Hydracore plant, have not been altered, changed, or repaired in some manner. This does not extend to power units, pumps and other trade accessories not manufactured by Hydracore, though sold or operated with Hydracore’s drills, same being subject to warranties of the representative manufacturers thereof. In no event shall Hydracore be liable for consequential damages or liabilities caused by the failure of any drill or parts to operate properly. GENERAL DESCRIPTION Drilling Unit The drilling unit is equipped with two 70-inch stroke hydraulic cylinders. The cylinder bore is 2-1/2 inches, and the rod size is 1-3/4 inches. The drill head has a hollow spindle 4-5/8 inches inside diameter. The spindle is driven by a belt. A variable displacement bent axis motor has a 28-tooth pulley directly attached to its shaft. An 80-tooth pulley is fastened to the lower end of the main spindle. The speed of the head can be varied by a knob on the hydraulic panel. A hydraulic clamp is also fitted. The drill is normally mounted on a steel skid. There are telescopic back legs that allow the drill to be set at any angle from –90 to –45 degrees. Rod pulling is accomplished by means of the hydraulic cylinders. The tower is only used for the wireline cable. There is a small winch provided to hoist the rods up into position on top of the drill head. Hydraulic Power Pack The hydraulic powerpack is made so that it can be split into two pieces so that it can be moved with a helicopter. The 203 HP Isuzu engine weighs about 1600 lbs. The Cat C7 250 HP engine weighs about 2900 lbs. The hydraulic module separates from the engine module by removing only a few bolts. The hydraulic module weights about 1400 lbs. The skid that the engine and hydraulic module are one weighs 250 lbs. The hydraulic pumps are unbolted from the engines and stay with the hydraulic module for moving. The main hydraulic flow comes from the first two pumps closest to the engine. They are gear pumps. The first gear pump on the engine is 6 or 7 cubic inch. It is used for rotation when drilling, but is also used to operate the winch and the cylinder fast feed. The second gear pump is used only for rotation. There are twin spools for the rotation to handle the high flow of 80 or 90 GPM. Piston Pump, Pressure Compensated The pressure compensated piston pump is the third pump in the stack. It provides a constant 2500 psi to several drill functions. These pumps require a low case pressure to be maintained, so the case is drained straight back to tank. This pump is 30cc displacement. It can deliver 17 gallons per minute, but most of the time it delivers much less, but holds the constant pressure of 2500 psi. Small Gear Pump The small gear pump is 19cc displacement. It delivers 10 GPM at 2200 engine rpm. It is used only for the water pump circuit. Dynex Pump The fifth pump in the stack is a small piston pump, called a Dynex pump, which provides 5000 psi for rod breaking as well as a small amount of oil to keep the clamp accumulator charged. All the pumps suck oil from a common 24-gallon reservoir, except the Dynex pump which gets its oil from the return circuit. The Dynex pump requires positive pressure for its oil supply. Reservoir and Filters The reservoir is equipped with two tank top return filters, and one return filter underneath the tank. The filter under the tank has a three micron rating. This keeps the oil extra clean to reduce wear. The filter under the tank can be easily changed because a check valve is installed inside the tank to prevent the oil draining from the tank when the filter is removed. On each side of the reservoir is a water to oil heat exchanger (on the Isuzu Drills). The reason there are two of some components where normally one big one would suffice is that this drill is based on the doubling of our drill with one 100 HP engine. There are two lines to the tops of the filters. The purpose of these lines is a secret. Rotation Circuit The rotation motor is a 250cc Rexroth variable displacement bent axis piston motor. The case of the motor is drained straight back to tank through a 5/8 inch hose to minimize case pressure to make the shaft seal last as long as possible. The displacement of the motor is controlled by the pressure in a small hose that comes from the speed control valve. The oil for the motor (90 GPM) is supplied and returned by 1-1/4 inch hoses that are connected to two sections of the main valve bank. The two sections are operated by a single lever, but get oil from two separate inlet sections on each side of the valve bank. These two sections get oil directly from the two gear pumps. Each inlet section has a built in relief valve that is set at 3200 psi. Once the oil has gone through the motor it returns to the tank via the central outlet section through the two heat exchangers and tank top filters. The tank top filters discharge into the tank directly above the suctions of the two gear pumps, so that the gear pumps always have a good supply of oil. The rotation motor is provided with up to 5000 psi in reverse for rod breaking. This oil comes from three pistons of the small piston pump on the end of the pump stack (the Dynex pump). These three pistons pump into one hose which is for reverse on the valve bank. When the rotation valve is in forward, or neutral, this oil returns back to tank. When the valve is in reverse, the oil is blocked from going back to tank, so it is forced through the rotation motor. The pressure in reverse is limited to 5000 psi by two port reliefs that are screwed into the top of the dual rotation sections. The rotation sections have been specially altered to prevent the main pumps from pressuring up when the levers are put in reverse. Screws are fitted onto the detent mechanism caps on the rotation valve to limit spool travel in reverse. Torque Gauge A gauge is connected to the main gallery of the main valve bank. This gauge shows the pressure that the main gear pumps are putting out. It is normally used to estimate drill head torque. Because the drill head motor is a variable displacement motor the torque varies with the pressure and also the main motor displacement. Wireline Winch and Cylinder Fast Feed The winch and cylinder levers get their oil only from the bigger gear pump. Both these levers have three positions: up, down, and neutral. The ports on both these valves are blocked in neutral. The winch motor also has a built in cushion valve to prevent shocks, due to quick stopping of the winch, from breaking the winch motor, and also to make the whole machine safer and smoother. Slow Feed Valve The slow feed lever is a smaller valve section on the right. It gets its oil from the pressure compensated piston pump. The pressure is set by the pump. The valve has four positions: up, down, neutral, and float. The valve directs flow from the top of the cylinder through the fine feed valve, and applies pressure to the bottom side of the cylinder when the lever is in the down position. A gauge is placed in the circuit before the fine feed valve so that bit weight can be estimated. The float position connects both ends of the cylinder to tank allowing the head to drop by its weight and the weight of the rods, but still controlled by the fine feed valve. The float position is also used for doing up and undoing rod threads. Chuck and Clamp Valve This valve gets its oil supply from the pressure compensated pump. This oil is usually available at the pump pressure setting of 2500 psi, large volumes of oil are available from this pump, which will operate the chuck and clamp quickly. So that the foot clamp and chuck are not affected by the fluctuations in pressure in the pressure compensated circuit caused by other functions using the oil, the chuck and clamp valve is isolated by a check valve. The foot clamp also has a ball valve to lock the clamp open or closed. The foot clamp opens when pressure is applied to the opening hose, and closes by the pressure in the accumulator when the pressure is released. Foot Clamp The foot clamp is opened by the pressure from the valve described above. Oil from the accumulator closes the foot clamp. The accumulator is charged with nitrogen gas at 1200 psi. As soon as the machine is started the accumulator is then charged with oil to 1600 psi. Safety Warning When working on the foot clamp it is important to realize that the accumulator can hold high oil pressure even when the machine has been shut down for a long time. Even after a year of no operation there will still be pressure present. When disconnecting the lines for the foot clamp, it is important to crack the fitting loose and not undo the fitting more than one full turn until all the pressure has bled off. Bleeding the pressure off can take five or ten minutes. If the hoses are unscrewed more than 1 turn when pressure is present the pressure will be released very suddenly, which can cause serious permanent injury, from high pressure oil. This oil is supplied by the single piston of the Dynex pump the pressure is controlled by a pressure relief valve installed in the control panel. The accumulator once charged with oil will constantly try to close the foot clamp. The gas acts like a big spring pushing the oil into the clamp. When the clamp is opened oil is forced back into the accumulator, which raises the pressure above the pump pressure. Although the pump is supplying the accumulator with oil constantly almost no oil ever goes in once it is filled. During operation the accumulator oil pressure will build up to about 2400 psi from the shocks and surges caused by the rapid opening and closing of the clamp. If the oil pressure in the accumulator goes much over 2500 psi (the feed pressure) then the clamp will not open fully. When this happens it is sometimes necessary to bleed a little oil out of the accumulator to reduce the oil pressure to get the clamp to work properly. Speed Control Valve The speed control valve is a pressure reducing and relieving valve that controls the pressure in the small line that controls the displacement of the main motor. The range of pressure which controls the motor is only from 200 to 400 psi. The clamp hose is also used as the pressure source for the main motor displacement control valve (speed control). By using this hose as the pressure source the speed control valve only works when the footclamp is open. In this way the head automatically goes into slow speed for rod breaking. A check valve allows pressure in the displacement hose to immediately bleed out into the footclamp valve as soon as the footclamp closes (this is when the line is vented to the return circuit). The speed control valve has its own drain hose which is connected directly back to tank so that pressure fluctuations in the circuit will not affect the drill head speed. Small Winch, Rod Hoist Valve This valve gets its oil from the pressure compensated pump. It has four positions: up, down, neutral, and float. A relief valve is teed onto one side of the valve so that if the lever is not put in float while drilling the winch will not be locked, which might break something. The small winch has a capacity of 1100 lbs. The winches internal brake has been removed so that it can freewheel, with some drag, when the lever is in the float position. Mud Mixer Valves The two valves on the left side of the panel can be used to control two mud mixers. The source of the oil is the pressure compensated pump. The mixers only use about 4 GPM each so even if they are both running very fast they are not likely to use more oil than the pressure compensated pump can supply. Water Pump Control Valves There are two water pump control valves. The one on the right is the one that should be used while drilling normally. This valve gets its oil from the dedicated gear pump 19cc, 10 GPM. The left hand water pump control valve gets its oil from the pressure compensated pump It is best to use this valve only to provide extra oil to make the water pump go really fast for pumping the tube. It doesn’t work as efficiently because the pressure provided is always 2500 psi even if much less is required. Using more than about two clicks of this valve while drilling will result in a loss of feed pressure. The loss of feed pressure will cause the clamp to close on the drill rods while they are turning. HYDRAULIC SCHEMATIC INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOOKING UP HOSES Heat Exchanger Only the 203 HP Isuzu engine drills have a water to oil heat exchanger, the 250 HP Cat engine drills have an air to oil exchanger in front of the engine radiator. Water to Oil (203 HP Isuzu engine drills) The heat exchangers have to have water running through it most of the time while the engine is running to keep the hydraulics cool. The water must not be under pressure. Usually the water supply line is run through the cooler before it goes into the water tank. Caution Do not hook the heat exchanger to the waterswivel hose; the pressure will be too much. It is also very important to make sure it is easy to drain the heat exchanger when freezing conditions exist. Air to Oil (250 HP Cat engine drills) This type of heat exchanger only needs to be kept clean. Quick Disconnect Fittings Some of the hoses are connected by quick disconnect fittings. It is very important that these fittings are cleaned before plugging them together to prevent contamination of the hydraulic circuits. If the machine is going to be unitized it might be preferable to eliminate some of the quick disconnects. On the rotation circuit there are no quick disconnect to avoid problems, and backpressure from the quick disconnects, or contamination of the system. Foot Clamp There are only two hoses for the foot clamp. They are both 3/8 inch hoses. One of these hoses has a special quick disconnect that is the screw on type. This one connects to the accumulator. This type of fitting is used because it can easily be connected under pressure. The other hose is a 3/8 inch hose with a standard quick disconnect fitting. It is connected to the opening side of the two pistons in the clamp (the inner sides). Drill Head There are five hoses that have to be connected to the drill head. The two main rotation hoses are1-1/4 inch hoses one with a 5000 psi pressure rating. The case drain line hooks on just below the main rotation hoses. It is a 5/8 inch hose. Caution If the case drain line is not installed, the main rotation motor will be damaged. There is one 3/8 inch hose for the chuck cylinder. A 3/8 inch hose is used on the line for the displacement control on the top of the motor. Cylinder Two separate hoses 3/4 inch with quick disconnects are provided for the cylinder. The longer one should be used for the top fitting on the cylinder. Wireline Winch Two separate hoses 5/8 inch by 12 feet long are provided for the winch. These hoses are also used for the lifting cylinder when adjusting the angle of the mast. There is also usually a case drain line on the winch. This line is teed together with the case drain on the hoist and is drained straight back to tank. Hoist Two 3/8 inch hoses connect the hoist valve (4) to the small hoist on the back of the support legs. Water Pump Two 3/4 inch hoses are provided to run the water pump. Some water pumps may also require a case drain line going straight back to tank. Mud Mixer If Hydracore has provided a mud mixer, it will have two 3/8-inch hoses permanently connected to it. The hoses are 3/8 inch and connect to the power pack on the right side just below the hydraulic tank. This machine is provided with connections for two mud mixers. MAINTENANCE OF HYDRACORE 4000 SINGLE ENGINE DRILL Power Pack The following maintenance intervals should be adhered to based on usage of two shifts per day, five or seven days a week, for maximum life of the hydraulic components. Daily The hydraulic oil level should be checked, the level should be checked only when the hydraulic cylinder is fully retracted (down). The level should be within the range of the sight level gauge. Only clean oil from a closed container should be added. AW 32 hydraulic oil is recommended, but any good quality mineral based hydraulic oil can be used. Some biodegradable oils can also be used. Hydracore sells a soya based product that is better than any of the others. If the oil goes down every day the leak should be located and fixed. The engine oil level should be checked, with the dipstick. The fuel filter can be drained with the valve at the bottom to check for water in the fuel. Weekly Change the engine oil and oil filter. Use the oil recommended by the engine manufacturer. Monthly The tank top hydraulic return filters and fuel filter should be changed. Every Two Months The hydraulic oil in the tank should be drained and replaced with fresh oil. The return filters and the auxiliary filters should be replaced. Once a Year The hydraulic pumps and the main hydraulic motor should be removed and sent to a qualified hydraulic repair shop for overhaul. While the pumps are off it would be a good time to check the condition of the drive coupling on the flywheel. Seals should be replaced in the main rams and the clamp cylinders. Feed Frame Winch and Foot Clamp Daily The whole drill should be washed every day to reduce the amount of dirt accumulating on the slides. The foot clamp should be greased as well as the winch. As Required If the hydraulic cylinder leaks it will have to be removed from the feed frame to replace the seals. Keeping the cylinder clean will reduce the wear on the seals. Metal shavings which tend to fall out of the chuck when pulling rods, are particularly bad for the cylinder. Using the proper sized hood bushing when pulling will help to prevent the rods dragging on the jaws. The plastic slides can be adjusted if excessive free play develops. Tighten the bolts that squeeze the plastic just enough to take the play out, but still allow the head to slide under its own weight. Drill Head Daily The three grease nipples should be greased thin lithium based grease. The main head bearings are large and should have about six shots per shift. The chuck should be greased every shift as well. The chuck will operate much better if this is not overlooked. The chuck needs to be open in order to for the grease to get into the areas where it is needed. The chuck will have approximately 30% more grip when it is clean and greased than when it is dry. Every Hole Each time the machine is dismantled for a move there is an opportunity to check the soundness of the structure of the drill. The tower and the support legs should be checked for cracks. The wireline pulleys should be greased and checked for free movement of the bearings. Any problems should be rectified immediately with new or properly repaired parts. Monthly The slack in the drive belt should be checked. The belt should be adjusted so that there is about 1/4 inch of total movement of the belt from the neutral position (about 1/8 inch each way). Measure this slack by pushing on the middle of the belt half way between the pulleys with all the strength of your hand. It is very important that there is slack. If the belt is tight then the hydraulic motor shaft will snap. These belts are not like a normal belt. They have no stretch they are more like a chain. That is why they are called a poly chain. As Required If the belt snaps it can be replaced by removing the two covers on the front of the head and unbolting the motor so that it can be tilted forwards. It may also help to remove the front pulley flange that is screwed into the pulley. If the main bearings require replacement then it will be necessary to completely dismantle the drill head. Once the motor and chuck are removed, then the chuck mounting flange and pulley can be removed by screwing bolts into the extractor holes provided. Then the 1/2 inch bolts can be removed, separating the bearing unit from the end plates. The shaft and bearings should then be separated in with a hydraulic press. For reassembly it is simpler to heat the bearings so that they can then be dropped onto the shaft, and heat the housing so it can be slid over the bearings. Do not heat the bearings over 110 degrees Celsius when doing this. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR HYDRACORE 4000 The operating instructions will be split into two sections. The first section will explain the function and location of each of the controls and gauges. The second section will describe how the controls and gauges can be used to perform all the tasks to do with drilling. Control Functions Controls From the left to the right on the control panel these are the controls listed in order. 1. The mud mixer knob/lever. 2. The other mud mixer knob/lever. 3. The water pump fast lever is mainly for fast operation of the pump while pumping the tube. It is connected to the pump on the right hand engine. It can also be used when only the right engine is running. 4. The hoist lever controls the hoist mounted on the back legs. It has four positions. 5. The head speed control (displacement control pressure reducing) knob. Turning this knob in will increase the speed of the drill head and reduce the available torque. This valve is only functional when the foot clamp is open. Because of this the drill head will automatically be in the slow speed high torque mode, whenever a rod joint is being made up or broken. 6. The foot clamp and hydraulic chuck lever is a small rotary handle with three positions. Turning the handle right opens the chuck and closes the foot clamp. Turning the handle left opens the foot clamp and closes the chuck. In the center position both the clamp and chuck are closed. 7. The clamp lock lever is just below the foot clamp and hydraulic chuck lever on the front of the panel and can be used to lock the foot clamp open or closed. 8. The main rotation lever is a vertical handle which sticks out of the top of the panel. It is connected to two valves and controls the flow of 90 GPM of oil from both main pumps to the drill head. Out is forwards, back is reverse. Moving the lever back slightly is slow reverse and up to 5000 psi is possible. When the lever is moved further back, higher speeds are possible in reverse, but only up to the main relief pressure which is set at 3000 psi. The high pressure in reverse is set by the small relief valve that is just behind the main rotation lever. This was pre-set at 5000 psi and should not be tampered with. A separate gauge is required to set this rod breaking pressure. 9. The winch lever is a vertical handle with three positions. Out is down, back is up. The lever is spring centered to neutral. 10. The cylinder fast feed lever is a vertical handle with three positions. Out is down, back is up. 11. Water pump lever. This is the water pump lever that should be used while drilling. This controls the flow of the oil from the load-sensing pump on the left hand engine. This pump is only used for the water pump. 12. The cylinder fine feed valve controls the oil flow out of the cylinder in conjunction with the cylinder slow feed lever. 13. The cylinder slow feed lever is a vertical handle which controls the slow movement of the cylinder. It has four positions, all detented. 14. Engine throttle. Gauges, from left to right: A. The water pressure gauge. B. The torque (main pump pressure) gauge indicates the pressure of the main pump which indicates the drill head output torque. The normal range for drilling is 1500 to 2800 psi. C. The cylinder off pressure gauge is used to estimate bit weight. Every 1000 lbs. of cylinder off pressure is about 8000 lbs. of cylinder force (when both cylinders are connected). Drilling Tasks These are the tasks that have to be performed to drill: 1. Positioning the drill. 2. Collaring the hole and anchoring. 3. Drilling a run. 4. Pulling the tube. 5. Pulling rods and putting them back down. 6. Adjusting the rod clamp to fit different sized rods. 7. Changing jaws in the chuck. 1. Positioning the Drill The drill skid will first have to be set in position and anchored down. Preferably this can be done by burying two drill rods about two feet deep with four chains pulling down on the four corners of the skid. HQ drill rods can be inserted through the holes in the main skid and the two platforms go on one side, and the two engines and hydraulic module go on the other side. The drill has a lifting cylinder and double telescoping legs so that it can be lifted to and supported at any angle from vertical to 45 degrees. Before lifting the mast the sheave wheel assembly should be bolted on, and the wireline cable threaded around all three sheave wheels. The sheave wheels should also be greased at this time. The sheave assembly has two positions, one that is for 10-foot tubes and the shorter one that is for 5 foot tubes. Since the lifting cylinder is used only when positioning the drill, it is not provided with its own control valve. The hoses from the hoist can be connected to the lifting cylinder to set the angle. The mast-raising cylinder has a restricted fitting to slow the raising and lowering of the mast. The mast should first be put in the vertical position so that the drill head can be installed, using the jib crane provided. While the mast is vertical, the telescopic mast extension can be extended by using the pipes that fit onto the cylinders. By extending the cylinders the mast will be pushed up. It can then be bolted into position, and the cylinders retracted and the pipes removed. 2. Collaring the Hole and Anchoring The hydraulic chuck will open sufficiently to grab the core barrel, for the first run. It is important to start the hole as straight as possible so that everything remains in perfect alignment. If the drill is near bedrock it may be possible to anchor the machine by burning a rod in, just behind the intended location of the hole. This is a picture of the first ever Hydracore 4000. This drill had twin 96 HP Deutz engines. The head was a bit different on the first three Hydracore 4000s, and it used the complete Acker Chuck. Later Hydracore 4000 drills used twin opening cylinders from Hydracore as shown in this book, instead of the original Acker Chuck opening cylinder arrangement. 3. Drilling a Run There are several ways the controls can be used while drilling a run. First the tube must be locked and the water pump set to run at a suitable speed. In order to get the water pump to pump the tube really quickly the oil from the second auxiliary pump can be added to the pump circuit by operating valves 3 and 11 at once. The rods should be started turning gradually by pulling the rotation lever out. To start the feed, the slow feed lever should be used in conjunction with the fine feed lever. The slow feed lever is pushed down one notch from neutral to feed the rods in. The cylinder has an initial surge when the slow feed lever is put into the down position. This lever also has a float position, which can be useful to find the bottom of the hole, or on down holes where after a certain depth when there is no off pressure you can drill with the weight of the rods. In this float position the fine feed lever still controls the feed rate. The cylinder fast feed lever also has a float but this is only for screwing rod joints. If, while drilling, it is necessary to back up to ream the hole or to try to run over a block, the machine can be backed up using the slow feed lever and fine feed lever on down holes. The hoist cable will normally be attached to the water swivel at all times. While drilling the hoist lever should be placed in the float position. If it isn’t in float, then the winch will not turn as freely and there will be excess tension in the cable. The cable should not break though, because there is a relief valve installed on the hoist valve to prevent the drum locking. Also the brake has been removed from this winch so that it can free wheel. At the beginning of each run the rotation pressure with the rods off bottom turning at full speed should be noted, so that once drilling commences you will know exactly how much torque pressure is being used at the bit. The bit torque pressure will remain in the same range from the beginning to the end of the hole; only the torque to turn the rods will increase. Also at the beginning of each run note the cylinder off pressure gauge reading before the bit is on bottom with the slow feed lever in the position you are using for drilling which may be in or float. This way the amount of off pressure can be noted once drilling commences, this should remain in the same range from the beginning to the end of the hole. Also every once in a while it is good to measure the penetration rate in inches per minute so that in combination with the pressure readings the performance of the bit can be judged. 4. Pulling the Tube The wireline winch is bolted onto the back of the skid so that no matter what angle the hole is it can be left in the same position. The sheave wheel mast assembly fits on the top of the feed frame. There are three sheaves, two at the top and one near the bottom. Safety Warning The wireline cable must be threaded around all three sheaves so that the force on the cable will pull straight on the long mast and not bend it. The mast can be telescoped so that pulling a 10-foot tube is possible, if only a 5-foot tube is used, it can be left in the lower position. The winch is equipped with a float position, which can be used when pumping the overshot. When the engine is wide open the main hydraulic pump provides too much oil for the winch. It is best to slow the engine down when pulling the tube or lowering the overshot. That way fuel and wear is saved. Also this will reduce the heating of the hydraulic oil. 5. Pulling the Rods and Putting Them Back Down For pulling rods a rod slide is provided that can be adjusted to support the end of the drill rod. For the rod clamp and chuck to work properly the drill must be lined up with the drill hole. Also to prevent problems caused by misalignment the proper sized guide bearing and hood bushing should be used. If the rods are not centralized between the foot clamp jaws when it grabs them, it may not grab the rod well enough to prevent it dropping. Although the operation of the foot clamp and head are not synchronized with the cylinder, rod pulling is made easy by the simple layout of the controls. The foot clamp and chuck are both operated by the same lever, and in no lever position are both the foot clamp and chuck open at the same time. The only time when the rods could be dropped is when a rod joint has just been broken. If the foot clamp is opened after the rod joint is broken but before the drill head has been moved back forward the rods will be dropped. For breaking rod joints the machine has up to 2870 ft-lbs of torque available in reverse. If the head will not break the joint then hitting the joint with a hammer while torqueing it will almost always break the joint. In reverse the pressure builds up slowly. If the rod joint doesn’t break immediately wait about 15 seconds with the rotation lever all the way back. The reverse hose will be seen to move as the pressure stiffens the hose. Moving the lever back and forth quickly will not help the rod joint to break. The 5000 psi pump is small and it takes a few seconds for pressure to build up. To break rods the joint should be positioned about three feet behind the foot clamp. The float position on the cylinder slow feed lever must be used so that the head can move back as the rod comes unscrewed. It is best to just leave the slow feed lever in float during the entire pulling and lowering operation. This makes the cylinder operate more smoothly. Leave the fine feed lever cracked open 1/4 turn to have the right amount of float required; it reduces shocks on the system. Caution Always leave the slow feed lever in float with the fine feed valve cracked open 1/4 turn while pulling or lowering. Pulling without having the lever in float will cause shocks to the cylinder circuit that will reduce the life of many of the components (such as the cylinders, hoses valves and gauges). The clamp and chuck lever should be put in the center position so that both the clamp and chuck are closed, then the rotation lever can be put in reverse to break the rod joint. Oil at up to 5000 psi is provided by the Dynex pump when the rotation lever is pushed back (this pressure does not show on the torque gauge). There is an adjustment stop on the bottom of each of the rotation spools that allows the reverse speed to be adjusted. The rod joint should be tightened slowly, with the fast feed lever in float, so that it doesn’t get too tight when the joint bottoms out. Rods can be lifted into position using the hoist. A water swivel with a lifting bail should be used, such as the Longyear compact plus water swivel. 6. Adjusting the Rod Clamp to Fit Different Sized Rods The foot clamp can hold rods any size from HW casing down to BQ rods. One set of jaws handles all the sizes. The size range of rod that can be handled by the clamp is altered by adding and removing spacers that fit between the housing and the cylinders. There are two spacers on each side in between the foot clamp cylinder and the housing. HQ drilling -- When two spacers are installed on each side, the foot clamp will handle HW casing and HQ rods. NQ drilling -- With one spacer installed on each side, the foot clamp will handle NW casing and NQ rods. BQ drilling -- With no spacers in place, the foot clamp will handle BW casing and BQ rods. 7. Changing Jaws in the Chuck In order to change jaws, the rod must first be removed from the head. Then the hood bushing is removed. Open the chuck. With the chuck open, clean out the bore of the chuck using a wire brush and some diesel fuel or detergent. Remove the spring that retains the jaws (this is much easier when the chuck is open). Pull the jaws out. Put some grease in each jaw groove and then install the clean and re-greased jaw set. A clean and greased set of jaws will have 30% more grip than a dry rusty set. Install the retaining ring for the new jaw set. Each jaw set has its own retaining ring. There are different sized retaining rings for each jaw size. Then install the correct sized hood bushing. GARANTÍA ESTÁNDAR DE HYDRACORE Se ha acordado que no hay garantías explícitas o implícitas, hechas por Hydracore Drills Ltd., excepto la siguiente garantía estándar. Hydracore Drills Ltd. garantiza que cada Perforadora Hydracore nueva y sus componentes vendidos por Hydracore están libres de defectos ya sea en cuanto a material o a fabricación bajo condiciones de uso y servicio normales, por noventa días a contar de su primer día de uso, pero que no excedan seis meses desde la fecha de envío. La obligación bajo esta garantía se limita al reemplazo o reparaciones en la planta de Hydracore, localizada en Delta, B.C., en Canadá, o en el lugar designado por Hydracore, de la parte o partes que bajo inspección parezcan estar defectuosas, ya sea en cuanto a material o fabricación al momento de la venta, siempre y cuando la parte o partes que se alega están defectuosas se devuelvan al lugar de inspección, con costos de transporte pre-pagados por el cliente. Esta garantía tan solo aplica a Perforadoras Hydracore sin uso y sus partes, las cuales después del envío desde la planta Hydracore, no hayan sido alteradas, cambiadas o reparadas de ninguna manera. Esto no se extiende a unidades de fuerza, bombas u otros accesorios no manufacturados por Hydracore, aunque sean vendidos y operados con las perforadoras Hydracore, los cuales estarían sujetos a garantías de sus correspondientes fabricantes. De ninguna forma será responsable Hydracore por daños consecuentes o riesgos causados por la falta de operación adecuada de ninguna perforadora o de sus partes. Hydracore está constantemente esforzándose para mejorar sus productos y, por lo tanto se reserva el derecho de mejorar sus productos, especificaciones y precios sin previo aviso. DESCRIPCIÓN GENERAL Unidad de Perforación La unidad de perforación está equipada con dos cilindros hidráulicos de 70 pulgadas de recorrido. El diámetro interior del cilindro es de 2-1/2 pulgadas (6.35 cm), y la barra es de 1-3/4 pulgadas (4.45 cm). El cabezal tiene un pivote hueco de 4-5/8 pulgadas (11.74 cm) de diámetro interior. El pivote es accionado por una correa. Un motor de eje curvo de desplazamiento variable tiene una polea de 28 dientes directamente sujetada a su eje. Una polea de 80 dientes es sujetada al extremo inferior del pivote principal. La velocidad del cabezal puede variar mediante una manilla en el panel hidráulico. También está equipada con una abrazadera hidráulica. La perforadora normalmente está montada en un patín de acero. Tiene patas traseras telescópicas que permiten que la perforadora se ajuste a cualquier ángulo de 90 a 45 grados. El levante de barras se logra por medio de los cilindros hidráulicos La torre se utiliza solamente para el cable de acero (wireline) Hay un pequeño huinche auxiliar provisto para elevar las barras a su posición encima del cabezal. Bloque de Alimentación Hidráulica El bloque de alimentación hidráulica está hecho para que pueda dividirse en dos partes y de ésta forma pueda ser movido por un helicóptero. El motor Isuzu de 203 HP pesa aproximadamente 1.600 libras (725.7 Kg). El motor Cat C7 de 250 HP pesa aproximadamente 2.900 libras (1.315 Kg). El módulo hidráulico pesa aproximadamente 1.400 libras (635 Kg). El patín en el cual el motor y el módulo hidráulico están puestos pesa 250 libras (113.4 Kg). Armazón M038F 1 Mangueras F4210606-6-6-240” 2 Desconexión Rápida S40-3 1 Adaptadores 0103-6-6 2 Adaptadores 0603-8-6 2 Adaptadores 0353-8-8 2 DESCRIPCIÓN DEL CIRCUITO HIDRÁULICO DE LA PERFORADORA HYDRACORE 4000 DE UN MOTOR Motor y Bombas de Engranaje Estas maquinas tienen un motor que alimenta un conjunto de cinco bombas. El flujo hidráulico principal proviene de las dos bombas que se encuentran más cercanas al motor. Son bombas de engranaje. La primera bomba de engranaje en el motor es de 6 o 7 pulgadas cúbicas. Es usada para la rotación mientras se está perforando pero también se usa para operar el huinche y la alimentación rápida del cilindro. La segunda bomba de engranaje se utiliza sólo para la rotación. Hay dos carretes para la rotación que manejan el alto flujo de 80 ó 90 GPM. Bombas de Pistón, de Presión Compensada La bomba de pistón de presión compensada es la tercera bomba del conjunto de bombas. Esta provee una presión constante de 2500 psi para varias funciones de perforación. Estas bombas requieren que se mantenga una baja presión de caja, por lo que la caja es drenada directamente de vuelta al tanque. Esta bomba tiene una cilindrada de 30cc. Puede entregar 17 galones por minuto, pero la mayoría del tiempo entrega mucho menos manteniendo la presión constante a 2500 psi. Bomba de Engranaje Pequeña La bomba de engranaje peque¬ña tiene una cilindrada de 19cc. Entrega 10 GPM a 2200 rpm de motor. Se utiliza sólo para el circuito de la bomba de agua. Bomba Dynex La quinta bomba del primer grupo de bombas es una pequeña bomba de pistón, llamada bomba Dynex, la cual provee 5000 psi para quebrar barras así como una cantidad pequeña de aceite para mantener el acumulador de abrazadera cargado. Todas las bombas obtienen aceite de un tanque común de 24 galones, excepto la bomba Dynex la cual obtiene su aceite del circuito de retorno. La bomba Dynex requiere presión positiva para su abastecimiento de aceite. Estanque y Filtros El estanque está equipado con dos filtros de retorno en la parte de superior y un filtro de retorno en debajo del tanque. El filtro debajo del estanque tiene una clasificación tres micras de capacidad de filtración. Esto mantiene el aceite extra limpio para reducir el desgaste. El filtro debajo del estaque se puede cambiar fácilmente ya que tiene una válvula de verificación instalada dentro de éste, para prevenir que el aceite drene desde el tanque cuando se remueva el filtro. En cada lado del estanque hay un intercambiador de calor de agua a aceite (en las perforadoras Isuzu). La razón de que haya dos de algunos componentes donde normalmente solo uno grande sería suficiente, es que esta perforadora es basada en el doble de nuestra perforadora con un motor de 100 HP. Hay dos líneas hacia las partes de arriba de los filtros. El propósito de estas líneas es un secreto. Circuito de Rotación El motor de rotación es un Rexroth de 250 cc, de desplazamiento variable con motor de pistón de eje curvo. La carcasa del motor drena directamente de vuelta hacia el tanque a través de una manguera de 5/8 de pulgada para minimizar la presión de la carcasa y hacer que el sello del eje dure el máximo de tiempo posible. El desplazamiento del motor es controlado por la presión de una pequeña manguera que proviene de la válvula de control de velocidad. El aceite del motor (de 90 GPM), es suministrado y regresado a través de mangueras de 1-1/4 que son conectadas a dos secciones del banco de válvulas principales. Las dos secciones son operadas mediante una sola palanca, pero obtienen aceite desde dos secciones de entrada, a cada lado del banco de válvulas. Estas dos secciones obtienen aceite directamente de las dos bombas de engranaje. Cada sección de entrada tiene una válvula de alivio integrada que está fijada a 3200 psi. Una vez que el aceite ha pasado a través del motor, vuelve al tanque a través de la sección central de salida a través de dos intercambiadores de calor y filtros de la parte de arriba del tanque. Los filtros de la parte superior del estanque descargan hacia adentro del estanque que está directamente arriba de las succiones de las dos bombas de engranaje, para que las bombas de engranaje siempre tengan un buen abastecimiento de aceite. La rotación del motor es provista con hasta 5000 psi en reversa para quebrar barras. Este aceite proviene de tres pistones de la pequeña bomba de pistón al final del conjunto de bombas (la bomba Dynex). Estos tres pistones bombean hacia adentro de una manguera que es para reversa en el banco de válvulas. Cuando la válvula de rotación está en marcha adelante, o posición neutra, este aceite se devuelve hacia el estanque. Cuando la válvula esta en reversa, el aceite es bloqueado de volver hacia el estanque, entonces es forzado a través del motor de rotación. La presión en reversa se limita a 5000 psi por dos pasos de alivio que están atornillados en la parte superior a mano derecha de las secciones de rotación doble. Las secciones de rotación han sido especialmente alteradas para prevenir que las bombas principales ejerzan presión cuando las palancas son puestas en reversa. Tornillos han sido fijados a las tapas del mecanismo de freno en la válvula de rotación para limitar el desplazamiento de la bobina en reversa. Medidor de Torsión Un medidor es conectado a la galería principal del banco de válvulas principales. Este marcador muestra la presión que las bombas de engranaje principal están ejerciendo. Es normalmente usada para estimar la torsión del cabezal. Ya que el motor del cabezal es un motor de desplazamiento variable, la torsión varía con la presión y también con el desplazamiento del motor principal. Huinche de Cable (Wireline) y Alimentación Rápida de Cilindro Las palancas de huinche y cilindro obtienen su aceite solo de la bomba de engranaje más grande. Estas dos palancas tienen tres posiciones: Hacia arriba, hacia abajo, y posición neutra. Los pasos de estas dos válvulas son bloqueados en posición neutra. Este motor de huinche también tiene una válvula de amortiguación incorporada, para prevenir impactos causados por paradas súbitas del motor del huinche, y así éste no se rompa, y también para hacer que la maquina completa sea más segura y funcione mejor. Válvula de Alimentación Lenta La palanca de alimentación lenta es una sección de válvulas más pequeña a mano derecha. Obtiene aceite desde la bomba de pistón de presión compensada. La presión es ajustada por la bomba. La válvula tiene cuatro posiciones: Hacia arriba, hacia abajo, posición neutra y de flotación. La válvula dirige flujo desde la parte superior del cilindro a través de la válvula de alimentación fina, y aplica presión en el fondo del cilindro cuando la palanca esta posición hacia abajo. El medidor se encuentra en el circuito que está antes de la válvula de alimentación fina para que el peso de la broca pueda ser estimado. La posición de flotación conecta los dos extremos del cilindro con el tanque, permitiendo así que el cabezal caiga por su propio peso y el peso de las barras, pero sigue siendo controlado por la válvula de alimentación fina. La posición de flotación también es utilizada para enroscar y desenroscar las barras. Mandril y Válvula Abrazadera Esta válvula obtiene su abastecimiento de aceite desde la bomba de presión compensada. Este aceite es disponible normalmente cuando la presión de la bomba es ajustada a 2500 psi, grandes volúmenes de aceite son disponibles desde esta bomba, la cual opera el mandril y la abrazadera rápidamente. Para que la abrazadera de pie y el mandril no sean afectados por las fluctuaciones de presión en el circuito de presión compensada causada por otras funciones que utilizan el aceite, el mandril y la válvula de abrazadera son aisladas por una válvula de retención. La abrazadera de pie también tiene una válvula de bola para asegurar el cierre o la apertura de la abrazadera. La abrazadera de pie se abre cuando se aplica presión a la apertura de la manguera y se cierra por la presión en el acumulador cuando la presión es liberada. Abrazadera de Pie La abrazadera de pie se abre por la presión de la válvula descrita más arriba. El aceite del acumulador cierra la abrazadera de pie. El acumulador es cargado con gas nitrógeno a 1200 psi. En cuanto se echa a andar la maquina, el acumulador es entonces cargado con aceite a 1600 psi. Advertencia de Seguridad Cuando se utiliza la abrazadera de pie, es importante tener en cuenta que el acumulador puede sujetar una gran cantidad de presión de aceite incluso hasta después que la maquina haya estado apagada por un largo tiempo. Incluso hasta un año después de haber sido usada, todavía existirá presión acumulada. Cuando las líneas sean desconectadas de la abrazadera de pie, es importante soltar las conexiones un poco y no deshacerlas más de una vuelta completa hasta que la presión se haya soltado. Eliminar toda la presión puede tomar de cinco a diez minutos. Si las mangueras están desenroscadas más de una vuelta cuando hay presión presente, ésta será liberada de forma muy rápida, lo que puede causar serias lesiones permanentes causadas por aceite a alta presión. Este aceite es suministrado por el único pistón de la bomba Dynex. La presión es controlada por una válvula de alivio de presión instalada en el tanque. Una vez que el acumulador se carga con aceite, este tratara de cerrar constantemente la abrazadera de pie. El gas actúa como un gran resorte que empuja el aceite hacia la abrazadera. Aceite es forzado de vuelta hacia el acumulador cuando la abrazadera es abierta, lo cual eleva la presión por encima de la presión de la bomba. Aunque la bomba esta proveyendo al acumulador con aceite constantemente, casi nada de aceite entra al acumulador un vez que este está lleno. Durante la operación, la presión de aceite del acumulador se acumulará hasta 2400 psi debido a los impactos y aumentos causados por el abrir y cerrar rápido de la abrazadera. Si la presión del aceite en el acumulador sube mucho más de 2500 psi (la presión de alimentación) entonces la abrazadera no se abrirá completamente. Cuando esto sucede, a veces es necesario purgar un poco de aceite del acumulador para reducir la presión del aceite y así lograr que la abrazadera funcione apropiadamente. Válvula de Control de Velocidad La válvula de control de velocidad es una válvula de reducción y alivio de presión que controla la presión en la línea pequeña que controla el desplazamiento del motor principal. El rango de presión que controla el motor es de tan solo 200 a 400 psi. El ducto con abrazadera es también utilizado como la fuente de presión para la válvula de control de desplazamiento del motor principal (control de velocidad). Al usar esta manguera como la fuente de presión, la válvula de control de velocidad solo funciona cuando la abrazadera de pie está abierta. De esta forma, el cabezal automáticamente reduce su velocidad para el rompimiento de barras. Una válvula de seguridad permite que entre presión en la manguera de desplazamiento para inmediatamente purgarla hacia la válvula de pie tan pronto como ésta se cierra (esto ocurre cuando la línea se ventila hacia el circuito de retorno). La válvula de control de velocidad tiene su propia manguera de drenaje la cual es conectada directamente de vuelta al tanque para que las fluctuaciones de presión en el circuito no afecten la velocidad del cabezal. Huinche auxiliar, Válvula de Levante de Barras Esta válvula obtiene su aceite desde la bomba de presión compensada. Tiene cuatro posiciones: Hacia arriba, hacia abajo, posición neutra y de flotación. Una válvula de alivio esta puesta en forma de T en un lado de la válvula de levante de barras, para que en caso de que la palanca no sea puesta en posición de flotación mientras se esté perforando, el huinche no se bloquee, lo cual podría causar que algo se rompiera. El huinche auxiliar tiene una capacidad de 1100 libras (498.95 Kg). El freno interno del huinche ha sido removido para que pueda rodar libremente, con un poco de resistencia cuando la palanca está en posición de flotación. Válvulas de Mezclador de Lodo Las dos válvulas en el lado izquierdo del panel pueden ser usadas para controlar los dos mezcladores de lodo. El aceite proviene de la bomba de presión compensada. Los mezcladores tan solo utilizan aproximadamente 4 GPM cada uno, por lo que si incluso los dos estuvieran andando muy rápido es muy improbable que usen más aceite del que la bomba de presión compensada pueda proveer. Válvulas de Control de Bomba de Agua Hay dos válvulas de control de la bomba de agua. La que se encuentra a la derecha es la que debe usarse cuando se está perforando de normalmente. Esta válvula obtiene su aceite desde la bomba de engranaje específica de 19cc, 10 GPM, La válvula de control de la bomba de agua que está a la izquierda obtiene su aceite desde la bomba de presión compensada. Es mejor usar esta válvula solo para proveer aceite adicional para hacer que la bomba de agua ande muy rápido para bombear el tubo. No trabaja tan eficientemente porque la presión provista es siempre de 2500 psi aunque se requiera mucha menos presión. Si se utiliza más de dos pulsaciones de esta válvula mientras se perfora, se perderá presión de alimentación. La pérdida de presión de alimentación provocará que la abrazadera se cierre en las barras de la perforadora mientras éstas están rotando. ESQUEMÁTICA HIDRÁULICA INSTRUCCIONES PARA LA CONEXIÓN MANGUERAS Intercambiador de Calor Solo el motor Isuzu de 203 HP tiene un intercambiador de agua a aceite. Las perforadoras con motor Cat de 250 HP tienen un intercambiador de aire a aceite al frente del radiador al motor. Intercambiador de Aceite (perforadoras con motor Isuzu de 203 HP) Los intercambiadores de calor deben tener agua corriendo a través de él la mayoría del tiempo mientras el motor esta andando para mantener las hidráulicas enfriadas. El agua no debe estar bajo presión. Normalmente la línea de suministro de agua corre a través del enfriador antes de entrar al estanque de agua. Advertencia No conecte el intercambiador de calor a la manguera de eslabón giratorio de agua; la presión será demasiada. También es muy importante asegurarse de que sea fácil drenar el intercambiador de calor cuando haya condiciones climáticas de congelación. De Aire a Aceite (Perforadoras con motor Cat de 250 HP) Este tipo de intercambiador de calor solo debe mantenerse limpio. Desacoplamiento Rápido de Conexiones Algunas mangueras están conectadas por conexiones de desacoplamiento rápido. Es muy importante que todas estas conexiones sean limpiadas antes de acoplarlas para prevenir la contaminación del circuito hidráulico. Si la maquina va a ser unificada sería preferible eliminar algunos de los desacoplamientos rápidos. En el circuito de rotación no existen desacoplamientos rápidos para evitar problemas y contrapresión de los desacoplamientos rápidos, o contaminación del sistema Abrazadera de Pie Solo hay dos mangueras para la abrazadera de pie. Las dos son mangueras de de 3/8 de pulgadas (0.952 cm) Una de estas mangueras tiene un desacoplamiento rápido especial que es del tipo que se atornilla. Esta se conecta al acumulador. Este tipo de conexión se utiliza ya que puede ser fácilmente conectada bajo presión. La otra manguera es una de 3/8 de pulgada (0.952 cm) con una conexión de desacoplamiento rápido. Es conectada en el lado de apertura de los dos pistones en la abrazadera (los lados interiores). Cabezal Hay 5 mangueras que deben ser conectadas al cabezal. Las dos mangueras de rotación principal son mangueras de 1-1/4 pulgadas (3.175 cm), una tiene 5000 psi de capacidad de presión. La línea de drenaje de la caja se conecta justo debajo de las mangueras de rotación principal. Es una manguera de 5/8 de pulgada (1.58 cm) Advertencia Si la línea de drenaje de la caja no es instalada, el motor de rotación principal será dañado. Hay una manguera de 3/8 de pulgada (0.9525 cm) para el cilindro del mandril. Una manguera de 3/8 de pulgada es usada en la línea para el control de desplazamiento en la parte superior del motor. Cilindro Dos mangueras separadas de ¾ de pulgadas con desacoplamiento rápido son provistas para el cilindro. La manguera más larga debería ser usada para la conexión superior en el cilindro. Huinche de Cable (Wireline) Dos mangueras separadas de 5/8 de pulgada por 12 pies (1.587cm por 3.65 metros) de largo son provistas para el huinche. Estas mangueras también son usadas para el cilindro elevador cuando se ajusta el ángulo del mástil. También hay normalmente una línea de drenaje de caja en el huinche. La línea esta unida en “T” con el drenaje de caja en el huinche y es drenada directamente de vuelta hacia el tanque. Huinche Dos mangueras de 3/8 de pulgada (0.9525 cm) están conectadas a la válvula del huinche (4) hacia el huinche auxiliar en la parte de atrás de las patas de soporte. Bomba de Agua Dos mangueras de ¾ de pulgada son provistas para hacer andar la bomba de agua. Algunas bombas de agua pueden también requerir una línea de drenaje de caja que vaya directamente al tanque. Mezclador de Lodo Si Hydracore ha provisto un mezclador de lodo, tendrá dos mangueras de 3/8 conectadas permanentemente a este. Las mangueras son de 3/8 de pulgada y están conectadas al bloque de alimentación justo abajo del tanque hidráulico a la derecha. La máquina es provista con conexiones para dos mezcladores de lodo. MANTENCIÓN DE LA PERFORADORA HYDRACORE 4000 DE UN MOTOR Bloque de Alimentación Los próximos intervalos de mantención deben ser seguidos basándose en el uso de dos turnos por día, de cinco a siete días por semana, para una máxima vida útil de los componentes hidráulicos. A diario El nivel de aceite hidráulico debe ser chequeado. Este nivel debe ser chequeado solamente cuando el cilindro hidráulico está completamente retractado (hacia abajo). El nivel debe estar dentro del rango del indicador de nivel tipo regleta. Solamente debe agregarse aceite limpio de un envase cerrado. Se recomienda aceite hidráulico AW 32, pero cualquier aceite hidráulico de base mineral de buena calidad puede ser usado. Algunos aceites biodegradables también pueden ser usados. Hydracore vende un producto a base de soya que es mejor que cualquier otro. Si el nivel de aceite baja cada día, la fuga debe ser localizada y reparada. El nivel de aceite debe ser chequeado con la varilla para medir el nivel. El filtro de combustible puede ser vaciado con la válvula que está al fondo para chequear si hay agua en el combustible. Semanal Cambie el aceite del motor y el filtro de aceite. Use el aceite recomendado por el fabricante del motor. Mensual Los filtros de retorno hidráulico que están en la parte superior del tanque y el filtro de combustible deben ser cambiados. Cada Dos Meses El aceite hidráulico dentro del estanque debe ser vaciado y reemplazado con aceite nuevo. Los filtros de retorno y los filtros auxiliares deben ser reemplazados. Una Vez al Año Las bombas hidráulicas y el motor hidráulico principal deben ser removidos y enviados a un taller especializado de reparaciones hidráulicas para una revisión general. Mientras las bombas están fuera, sería un buen momento para chequear las condiciones del acoplamiento de mando en la rueda volante. Los sellos deben ser reemplazados en los martillos mecánicos principales y los cilindros abrazadera. Huinche de Bastidor de Alimentación y Abrazadera de Pie A diario La perforadora entera debe ser lavada cada día para reducir la cantidad de tierra que se acumula en los deslizadores. La abrazadera de pie debe ser engrasada tanto como el huinche. Según se Requiera Si el cilindro hidráulico tiene pérdida de aceite, tendrá que ser removido del bastidor de alimentación para reemplazar los sellos. Si se mantiene el cilindro limpio se reducirá el desgaste de los sellos. Las virutas de metal que tienden caer desde el mandril cuando se sacan las barras, son particularmente perjudiciales para el cilindro. Si se utiliza el tamaño adecuado de buje para cofre durante el levante de barras, se prevendrá que las barras friccionen las mordazas. Los deslizadores plásticos pueden ser ajustados si tienen demasiado juego. Ajuste los pernos que aprietan el plástico sólo lo suficiente para que no tengan juego, pero sigan permitiendo que el cabezal se deslice por su propio peso. Cabezal A diario Los tres nipples de engrase deben ser engrasados con una fina capa de grasa a base de litio. Los rodamientos del cabezal principal son grandes y se les debe poner aproximadamente seis medidas de grasa por turno. El mandril debe ser engrasado en cada turno también. El mandril operará mucho mejor si esto no se pasa por alto. El mandril necesita estar abierto para que la grasa se introduzca en las áreas donde se necesita. El mandril tendrá aproximadamente 30% más agarre cuando está limpio y engrasado que cuando está seco. Después de cada hoyo perforado Cada vez que la máquina es desmantelada para moverla, es buena oportunidad para chequear la solidez de la estructura de la perforadora. La torre y las patas de soporte deben ser revisadas para ver si hay grietas. Las poleas de cable deben ser engrasadas y revisadas para que tengan movimiento libre de los rodamientos. Cualquier problema debe ser rectificado inmediatamente con repuestos nuevos o reparados correctamente. Mensual La holgura en la correa de transmisión debe ser revisada. La correa debe ser ajustada para que haya aproximadamente ¼ de pulgada (0.635 cm) de movimiento total de la correa desde su posición neutra (aproximadamente 1/8 de pulgada o 0.317 cm para cada lado) Mida esta holgura empujando en el medio de la correa a la mitad de entre las dos poleas con toda la fuerza de su mano. Es muy importante que haya holgura. Si la correa está apretada, el eje del motor hidráulico se va a quebrar. Estas correas no son como las correas comunes y corrientes. No se estiran, son más parecidas a una cadena. Por eso se llaman poly chain (cadenas poly). Según se Requiera Si la correa se corta puede ser reemplazada removiendo las dos cubiertas del frente del cabezal y sacando los pernos del motor para que pueda ser ladeado hacia adelante. También puede ayudar el remover el frente del reborde de la polea que esta atornillado a la polea. Si los rodamientos principales requieren ser reemplazados será necesario desarmar completamente el cabezal. Una vez que el motor y el mandril son removidos, el reborde de montaje del mandril y polea pueden ser removidos atornillando los pernos en los hoyos para extracción provistos. Entonces los pernos de ½ pulgada pueden ser removidos, separando la unidad de rodamiento de las placas terminales. El eje y rodamientos deben entonces ser separados usando la prensa hidráulica. Para el re-armado es más fácil calentar los rodamientos para que puedan ser embutidos en su eje, y calentar la carcasa para que pueda ser deslizada sobre los rodamientos. No caliente los rodamientos sobre los 110 grados Celsius cuando haga esto. INSTRUCCIONES DE OPERACIÓN PARA EL HYDRACORE 4000 Las instrucciones de operación serán divididas en dos secciones. La primera sección explicará la función y ubicación de cada uno de los controles y medidores. La segunda sección describirá como los controles y medidores pueden ser usados para ejecutar todas las tareas cuando se está perforando. Función de Controles Controles De izquierda a derecha en el panel de control, estos son los controles listados en orden. 1. La palanca/manilla de mezclador de lodo 2. La otra palanca/manilla de mezclador de lodo 3. La palanca de alimentación rápida de la bomba de agua es principalmente para la operación rápida de la bomba mientras se bombea el tubo. Está conectada con la bomba en el motor de mano derecha. También puede ser usada cuando solamente el motor de mano derecha está andando 4. La palanca del huinche controla el huinche montado en las patas traseras. Tiene cuatro posiciones. 5. La manilla de control de velocidad del cabezal (reducimiento de presión de control de desplazamiento). Girando la manilla hacia adentro aumentará la velocidad del cabezal de la perforadora y reducirá el torque disponible. Esta válvula es funcional únicamente cuando la abrazadera de pie está abierta. Debido a esto el cabezal estará automáticamente en la velocidad baja y modo de torsión alta, siempre que una unión de barras está siendo enroscada o quebrada. 6. La palanca del mandril hidráulico y de la abrazadera de pie es una manilla chica rotatoria con tres posiciones. Girando la manilla hacia la derecha abre el mandril y cierra la abrazadera de pie. Girando la manilla hacia la izquierda cierra el mandril y abre la abrazadera de pie. En la posición central ambos, la abrazadera y el mandril, están cerrados. 7. La palanca de seguridad de la abrazadera está justo debajo de la palanca del mandril hidráulico y de la abrazadera de pie en el frente del panel y puede ser usada para asegurar la abrazadera de pie abierta o cerrada. 8. La palanca de rotación principal es una manilla vertical que sobresale de la parte superior del panel. Está conectada a dos válvulas y controla el flujo de 90 GPM de aceite desde ambas bombas principales hacia el cabezal. Para afuera es hacia adelante, y para atrás es reversa. Moviendo la palanca un poquito hacia atrás es reversa y hasta 5000 psi es posible. Cuando la palanca es tirada más hacia atrás, es posible conseguir velocidades más altas en reversa, pero sólo hasta la presión de alivio principal, que está fijada a 3000 psi. La presión alta en reversa es fijada por la válvula pequeña de alivio que está justo detrás de la palanca de rotación principal. Esta fue pre-establecida a 5000 psi y no debe ser alterada. Se requiere un medidor aparte para fijar la presión para quebrar las barras. 9. La palanca del huinche es una manilla vertical con tres posiciones. Para afuera es hacia abajo, y para atrás es hacia arriba. La palanca es centrada mediante un resorte en posición neutra. 10. La palanca del cilindro es una manilla vertical con tres posiciones. Para afuera es hacia abajo, y para atrás es hacia arriba. 11. Palanca de Bomba de Agua Esta es la palanca de la bomba de agua que debe ser usada mientras se perfora. Esta controla el flujo del aceite desde la bomba de sensor de carga en el motor de mano izquierda. Esta bomba es usada únicamente para la bomba de agua. 12. La válvula de alimentación fina del cilindro controla el flujo de aceite fuera del cilindro en conjunto con la palanca de alimentación lenta del cilindro. 13. La palanca de alimentación lenta del cilindro es una palanca vertical que controla el movimiento lento del cilindro. Tiene cuatro posiciones, todas con traba. 14. Acelerador de Motor Medidores, de izquierda a derecha: A. El medidor de presión de agua B. El medidor de torque (presión de bomba principal) indica la presión de la bomba principal que señala el torque de salida del cabezal. El rango normal de perforación es de 1500 a 2800 psi. C. El medidor de presión de apagado de cilindro es utilizado para estimar el peso de la broca. Cada 1000 libras de presión de cilindro apagado son 8000 libras de fuerza de cilindro (cuando los dos cilindros están conectados). Tareas de Perforación Estas son las tareas que deben ser llevadas a cabo para perforar: 1. Poner la perforadora en posición. 2. Encuellar el hoyo y anclar la perforadora 3. Perforar una corrida 4. Tirar el tubo 5. Tirar las barras y ponerlas devuelta abajo 6. Ajustar la abrazadera de barra para encajar diferentes tipos de barras. 7. Cambiar las mordazas en el mandril 1. Poniendo la perforadora en posición. La perforadora deberá primero ser puesta en posición y anclada. Preferiblemente esto puede ser logrado enterrando dos barras de la perforadora aproximadamente dos pies abajo con cuatro cadenas tirando hacia abajo en las cuatro esquinas del patín del armado de la perforadora. Barras de perforadora HQ pueden ser insertadas a través de los hoyos en el patín principal y las dos plataformas van en un lado, y los dos motores y el modulo hidráulico va en el otro lado. La perforadora tiene un cilindro de levante y patas telescópicas dobles para que pueda ser levantado y apoyado en cualquier ángulo desde vertical a 45 grados. Antes de levantar el mástil el ensamblado de la roldana debe ser apernado, y el cable wireline enroscado alrededor de las tres roldanas. Las ruedas de la roldana deben ser engrasadas en este momento. El ensamblado de la roldana tiene dos posiciones, una que es para tubos de 10 pies (3.048 metros) y la más corta que es para tubos de 5 pies (1.52 metros). Debido a que el cilindro de levante es usado sólo cuando se está posicionando la perforadora, no es provisto con su propia válvula de control. Las mangueras del huinche pueden ser conectadas al cilindro de levante para fijar el ángulo. El cilindro levantador de mástil tiene una conexión restringida para hacer más lentas la elevación y la bajada del mástil. El mástil debe ser puesto primero en posición vertical para que el cabezal pueda ser instalado, usando la grúa de brazo provista. Mientras el mástil está en posición vertical, la extensión telescópica del mástil puede ser extendida para utilizar las tuberías que caben en los cilindros. Al extender los cilindros, el mástil será empujado hacia arriba. Puede ser entonces apernado en posición, los cilindros retractados y las tuberías removidas. 2. Encuellando el hoyo y anclando la perforadora El mandril hidráulico se abrirá lo suficiente para agarrar el sacanúcleos, en la primera corrida. Es importante empezar el hoyo lo mas derecho posible para que todo se mantenga en perfecta alineación. Si la perforadora esta cerca de roca firme, puede ser posible anclar la máquina quemando una barra adentro, justo detrás de la ubicación destinada para el hoyo. Esta es una foto de la primera Hydracore 4000. Esta perforadora contaba con dos motores Deutz de 96 HP. El cabezal era un poco diferente en las primeras tres Hydracore 4000, y utilizaba un completo Mandril Acker. Perforadoras Hydracore 4000 más nuevas usaban dos cilindros de apertura de Hydracore como se muestra en este libro, en vez del sistema de cilindro de apertura mandril original Acker Chuck. 3. Perforando una corrida Hay varias maneras de como los controles pueden ser usados mientras se perfora una corrida. Primero el tubo debe ser asegurado y la bomba de agua ajustada para andar a una velocidad apropiada. Para logar que la bomba de agua bombee el tubo bastante rápido, el aceite de la segunda bomba auxiliar puede ser agregado al circuito de bomba operando las válvulas numero 3 y 11 a la misma vez. Las barras deberían empezar a rotar gradualmente tirando la palanca de rotación hacia afuera. Para empezar la alimentación, la palanca de alimentación lenta debe ser usada con la palanca de alimentación fina. La palanca de alimentación lenta se debe bajar un punto desde la posición neutra para alimentar las barras hacia adentro. El cilindro tiene un empuje inicial cuando la palanca de alimentación lenta es puesta en posición hacia abajo. Esta palanca también tiene una posición de flotación, la que puede ser útil para encontrar el fondo del hoyo, cuando después de cierta profundidad no hay presión y se puede perforar con el peso de las barras. En esta posición de flotación la palanca de alimentación fina controla el índice de alimentación. La palanca de alimentación rápida del cilindro también tiene una posición de flotación pero ésta es sólo para atornillar las uniones de barras. Si mientras se está perforando es necesario retroceder para rectificar el hoyo o para tratar de sobrepasar un bloqueo, la máquina puede retroceder utilizando la palanca de alimentación lenta y la palanca de alimentación fina en el pozo. El cable del huinche puede estar conectado normalmente al pivote giratorio de agua en todo momento. Mientras se está perforando la palanca del huinche debe ser puesta en la posición de flotación. Si no está en posición de flotación el huinche no girará tan libremente y habrá exceso de tensión en el cable. El cable no se debería romper en todo caso, porque hay una válvula de alivio instalada en la válvula del huinche para prevenir que se trabe el tambor. El freno ha sido removido también de este huinche para que pueda rotar libremente. Al empezar cada corrida la presión de rotación con las barras fuera de fondo rotando a máxima velocidad debería tomarse en cuenta para que una vez que la perforación comience se sepa exactamente cuanta presión de torque se está utilizando en la broca. La presión de torque de la broca quedará en el mismo rango desde el principio hasta el final de la perforación del hoyo; tan sólo el torque para rotar las barras aumentará. También, al principio de cada corrida note la lectura del manómetro para la presión de apagado de cilindro antes que la broca esté al fondo, con la palanca de alimentación lenta en la posición que usted esté usando para perforar la cual puede ser en posición hacia adentro o de flotación. De esta forma la cantidad de presión puede notarse una vez que la perforación comienza, esto debería permanecer en el mismo rango desde el principio hasta el final de la perforación del hoyo. También de vez en cuando es bueno medir el rango de penetración en pulgadas por minuto, para que en combinación con las lecturas de presión, el desempeño de la broca pueda ser juzgado. 4. Tirando el tubo El huinche de cable esta apernado contra la parte de atrás del patín, por lo que sin importar en qué ángulo está el hoyo, puede ser dejado en la misma posición. El ensamblado del mástil de la polea de cable cabe en la parte superior del bastidor de alimentación. Existen tres poleas, dos en la parte superior y dos cerca del fondo. Advertencia de Seguridad El cable (wireline) debe ser enroscado alrededor de las tres poleas para que la fuerza del cable tire derecho en el mástil largo y no lo doble. El mástil puede ser elevado telescópicamente, por lo que tirar un tubo de 10 pies es posible, si tan sólo se está tirando un tubo de 5 pies, el mástil puede ser dejado en su posición más baja. Este huinche está equipado con una posición de flotación, la cual puede ser utilizada cuando se bombea el pescante. Cuando el motor está abierto completamente, la bomba hidráulica provee demasiado aceite para el huinche. Es mejor reducir la potencia del motor cuando se está tirando el tubo o bajando el pescante. De esta forma el combustible se economiza y el desgaste se evita. Esto también prevendrá el calentamiento del aceite hidráulico. 5. Tirando las Barras y Poniéndolas de Vuelta Abajo. Para sacar las barras, una corredera de barra es provista la que puede ser ajustada para dar soporte al extremo de la barra de la perforadora. Para que la abrazadera de la barra y el mandril funcionen de forma adecuada, la perforadora debe estar alineada con el hoyo de perforación. También, para prevenir problemas causados por desalineamiento, el tamaño adecuado del rodamiento guía y la cubierta del buje deben ser utilizados. Si las barras no están centradas entre las mordazas de la abrazadera de pie cuando las agarra, puede que no agarre la barra lo suficientemente firme para prevenir que se caiga. Aunque la operación de la abrazadera de pie y el cabezal no están sincronizados con el tirado de la barra del cilindro, ésta es llevada a cabo fácilmente con la sencilla distribución del panel de control. La abrazadera de pie y el mandril son operados por la misma palanca, y en ninguna posición de la palanca éstos se abren al mismo tiempo. La única vez en que las barras se pueden caer es cuando una conexión de barras ha sido quebrada. Si la abrazadera de pie se abre después de que la conexión de la barra sea quebrada, pero antes de que el cabezal haya sido movido de vuelta hacia adelante, las barras se caerán. Para quebrar la conexión de las barras, la maquina cuenta con hasta 2870 pies por libra de torque disponible en reversa. Si el cabezal no quiebra una conexión, el pegarle a la juntura con un martillo mientras esta torqueando, casi siempre podrá quebrar la conexión. En reversa la presión se acumula lentamente. Si la unión de barras no se quiebra inmediatamente, espere unos 15 segundos con la palanca de rotación completamente hacia atrás. Verá a la manguera de reversa moverse, ya que la presión hace que la manguera se ponga rígida. El mover la palanca hacia atrás y hacia adelante rápidamente no ayudara a quebrar la unión de barras. La bomba de 5000 psi es pequeña y se tarda unos segundos en acumular la presión. Para quebrar barras la unión debe ser posicionada unos tres pies más atrás de la abrazadera de pie. La posición de flotación en la palanca de alimentación lenta del cilindro debe ser usada para que el cabezal se pueda mover atrás mientras que la barra se desatornilla. Es mejor dejar la palanca de alimentación lenta en posición de flotación durante el proceso completo de tirar y bajar barras. Esto hace que el cilindro opere de forma más eficiente. Deje la palanca de alimentación fina abierta 1/4 de vuelta para tener la cantidad necesaria de flotación requerida; esto reduce impactos en el sistema. Precaución Siempre deje la palanca de alimentación lenta en posición de flotación con la válvula de alimentación fina abierta 1/4 de vuelta mientras se está tirando o bajando barras. El tirar sin tener la palanca en posición de flotación causará impactos en el circuito del cilindro lo que reducirá la vida útil de muchos de sus componentes (tales como los cilindros, válvulas de mangueras y medidores). La palanca de abrazadera y de mandril debe ser puesta en la posición central para que ambas sean cerradas, entonces la palanca de rotación puede ser puesta en reversa para quebrar la unión de la barra. Aceite es provisto hasta 5000 psi por la bomba Dynex cuando la palanca de rotación es empujada hacia atrás (esta presión no se lee en el marcador de torque). Hay un tope de ajuste al fondo de cada uno de los carretes de rotación que permite ajustar la velocidad en reversa. La unión de la barra debe ser apretada lentamente, con la palanca de alimentación rápida en posición de flotación para que no quede muy apretada cuando la unión se aprieta a fondo. Las barras pueden ser elevadas a su posición usando el huinche. Una unión giratoria de agua con un asa de levante puede ser usada, tal como la Longyear compacta además de la unión giratoria de agua. 6. Ajustando la Abrazadera de Barra para Encajar Diferentes Tamaños de Barras. La abrazadera de pie puede sujetar barras de cualquier tipo desde HW casing hasta barras BQ. Un set de mordazas sirve para todos los tamaños. El rango de tamaño de la barra que puede ser manejado por la abrazadera es alterado agregando o removiendo espaciadores que caben entre la carcasa y los cilindros. Existen dos espaciadores en cada lado entre la abrazadera de pie y la carcasa. Perforando en HQ – Cuando dos espaciadores son instalados en cada lado, la abrazadera de pie va a manipular HW casing y barras HQ. Perforando en NQ – Con un espaciador instalado en cada lado, la abrazadera de pie podrá manipular NW casing y barras NQ. Perforando en BQ – Sin el uso de espaciadores, la abrazadera de pie podrá manipular BW casing y barras BQ. 7. Cambiando las Mordazas del Mandril Para poder cambiar las mordazas, primero la barra debe ser removida del cabezal. Luego la cubierta del buje debe removerse. Abra el mandril. Con el mandril abierto, limpie el diámetro interior del mandril usando un cepillo de metal y un poco de combustible diesel o detergente. Remueva el resorte que sujeta las mordazas (esto es mucho más fácil cuando el mandril está abierto). Saque las mordazas. Ponga un poco de grasa en cada ranura de la mordaza y luego instale el set de mordazas limpio y pre-engrasado. Un set de mordazas limpio y engrasado tendrá un 30% más de agarre que un set oxidado y seco. Instale el aro de retención para el nuevo set de mordazas. Cada set de mordazas tiene su propio anillo de retención. Hay diferentes tamaños de aros de retención para cada tamaño de mordaza. Instale entonces el tamaño correcto de cubierta de buje.
