Les années se suivent et ne se ressemblent pas…Seuls notre détermination, nos efforts quotidiens et l’esprit d’équipe qui règne chez X restent immuables et se trouvent même renforcés. Tout comme les valeurs auxquelles nous tenons et qui ont toujours représenté la philosophie de la maison : Sécurité, Qualité, Technique et Rentabilité. Ces thèmes demeurent notre fil rouge à tous, au cours de nos activités quotidiennes.
Les réorganisations menées pour faire face à l’évolution de nos marchés et de nos clients ont porté leurs fruits : le redressement de Canly en est un exemple.
Nous déployons également beaucoup d’énergie pour diversifier l’activité de nos
sites (bennes de déchets industriels, toupies à béton…) et construire ainsi le Groupe X de demain.
Autre enjeu majeur pour l’avenir : la poursuite de notre développement international, pour renforcer notre présence sur les marchés en forte croissance, notamment en Europe Centrale (Hongrie, Slovaquie, Roumanie et aussi Pologne), pour accompagner nos clients et équilibrer nos différentes activités (le carburant en Espagne avec IARSSA).
La route est encore longue mais nous avons tous ensemble déjà bien négocié les premiers virages qui nous permettent d’aborder l’avenir avec sérénité et optimisme. Encore faut-il ne pas « baisser la garde », et rester vigilant, car notre environnement évolue très rapidement.

With each passing year we face new challenges... but the determination, ongoing effort and team spirit that we have here at X remain unshaken and as strong as ever. The same can be said for our values, which continue to represent our business philosophy: security, quality, technology and profitability. These themes remain central throughout our day-to-day work.
Our efforts to re-structure at a time of both market and customer growth have yielded amazing results: our development work in Canly is just one example of this.
We have put significant effort into diversifying our activity across our sites (industrial waste skips, concrete mixer trucks...) in order to strengthen the company's position in the future.
Some key challenges for the future: pursuing international development, expanding our presence in a fast-growing market specifically in Central Europe (Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Poland) whilst still supporting our customers and balancing out our different operations (fuel in Spain with IARSSA, for example).
The road ahead is long but together we have already cleared the first hurdle, enabling us to face the future with a sense of calm and optimism. Still, it is important to stay focused and not let our guard down, as our environment is constantly and rapidly changing.

Une méthodologie de management originale
Le cabinet de conseil Cruchon Développement déploie le Lean Speed Up®, une nouvelle méthode de management d’activités innovantes. Dédiée aux jeunes sociétés ou PME mais aussi aux grandes entreprises qui souhaitent développer une nouvelle activité, la méthode permet d’organiser la conception, valider et déployer un business model efficient. Objectifs : mieux exploiter la créativité humaine et les ressources financières des start-up, arrêter les gaspillages, apporter plus vite dans les mains des clients, un produit désiré et mixer le développement client et le développement produit. « Cette méthode a pour vocation d’accélérer le développement de jeunes sociétés innovantes ou bien d’activités de rupture dans des sociétés beaucoup plus importantes. Il s’agit d’une approche globale de soutien de sociétés basée sur l’innovation, l’international et la RSE », explique Thierry Cruchon.
X se rapproche du X
L’association Cosmébio annonce une collaboration opérationnelle avec le FPS-Covrec. Deux groupes de travail voient le jour, l’un technique sur l’évolution des normes dans l’industrie des cosmétiques naturels et bio (coordination des positions face à l’AFNOR, l’ISO et Cosmetics Europe) et l’autre stratégique, sur la prise en compte de la biodiversité dans cette filière. X, membre fondateur du référentiel Cosmos-Standard, apportera également un support éclairé aux membres de l’association de X au niveau de l’implémentation du référentiel au niveau matières premières. « Notre filière des cosmétiques naturels et biologiques est en pleine évolution au niveau mondial. Elle poursuit sa construction, s’organise et gagne en maturité. Ce constat a amené nos deux entités à se rencontrer pour mettre en œuvre une collaboration sur ces deux axes stratégiques qui concernent aujourd’hui notre filière et donc nos adhérents », indique Samuel Gabory, président de l’association X.
Forum Labo : une 10e édition sous le signe de la qualité
Avec déjà plus de 240 exposants, la 10e édition de Forum Labo & Biotech devrait rassembler environ 8500 visiteurs professionnels des laboratoires publics et privés du 4 au 7 juin au Hall 3 de Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. Cette année, une session du Forum Expert mettra à l’honneur la qualité. Organisée en partenariat avec Christine Stemmer de Horizons Qualité, cette plateforme se déroulera sous forme de présentations par des laboratoires témoins, suivies de débats et d’animations. Cette édition 2013 accueillera également le congrès SEP des sciences séparatives et de couplage, regroupant plus de 300 spécialistes dans ces domaines. A noter enfin, les premiers Trophées de l’Innovation récompenseront les nouveautés les plus performantes, présentées sur les stands.
Tests sur animaux : X à l’écoute du grand public
Dans le cadre du projet Picaso Alternatives – Place des méthodes alternatives en expérimentation animale dans le domaine santé-environnement, Prise en compte des attentes sociétales – qui a pour objectif d’intégrer les préoccupations sociétales à la réflexion autour des stratégies de recherche futures, X et ses partenaires lancent un questionnaire destiné au grand public sur l’expérimentation animale et les méthodes alternatives aux tests sur animaux, afin d’évaluer la perception des citoyens sur le sujet. Ce questionnaire accessible sur X est financé par le ministère chargé de l’Ecologie dans le cadre du programme REPERE.
X, nouveau parrain de X
La promotion 2011-2013 du Master Formulation et Evaluation sensorielle, parrainée par X, planche sur son projet de fin d’études. Les étudiants des spécialités Cosmétique, Parfumerie et Aromatique alimentaire devront travailler autour du thème « Travel in Garden: un jardin extravagant, témoin des richesses du monde ». Pourquoi la thématique de la beauté masculine pour le prochain X ?
Le X, laboratoire de tendances du salon Beyond Beauty mettra en scène cette année (sur près de 300m2) le devenir de la cosmétique au travers du prisme de l'homme. Si le segment de marché 'cosmétique homme' est en croissance sur plusieurs continents, les propositions des marques et des réseaux de distribution ne semblent pas toujours correspondre aux nouvelles attentes des hommes en matière de beauté masculine. Nouvelles gestuelles beauté, ingrédients et actifs spécifiques, promesses et allégations, packaging dédiés, espaces de vente spécifiques, communication et marketing... sont d'autant d'aspects qui seront abordés tant sur cet espace conceptuel que dans son volet de conférences dédiées.
Où en est ce marché en France et dans le monde ?
Au niveau mondial, les ventes de cosmétiques pour hommes représentaient en 2011 près de 33 milliards de dollars, juste derrière les ventes de produits d'hygiène (37 milliards de dollars) selon Euromonitor International. En Europe, le marché des cosmétiques pour hommes reste le plus important et devrait continuer à connaitre une croissance de 7,9% entre 2009 et 2014 alors que l'Amérique Latine, l'Amérique du Nord, l'Afrique et le Moyen-Orient connaissent des croissances annuelles à deux chiffres. D'ici 2016, les marchés encore non matures pourraient peser 30% du marché pour le Brésil et 23% pour l'Inde. Au Moyen-Orient, le marché est quasiment aussi important que celui des cosmétiques pour femmes.
Quelles animations sont prévues ?
Une douzaine d'exposants présenteront leurs nouveautés et innovations ingrédients entrant dans la composition des produits pour hommes de demain : Seppic, Solabia, Minasolve, Induchem, Olsa, Biotechmarine, Stéarinerie Dubois, Berkem, Effervescence Lab… Concernant les animations : Toupie make up proposera un atelier 'maquillage homme' camouflage (anti-cernes) ; Mintel présentera ses pistes de réflexions sur l'homme moderne et son étude Men’s Grooming dans une conférence dédiée et info & inspirations donnera sa vision des cosmétiques hommes venus d'Asie.
Quel sera le lien avec les ingrédients marins et minéraux ? Quelles tendances sur ces deux focus ?
Parce que les ingrédients cosmétiques préférés des hommes sont d'origine marine et minérale et qu'ils rassemblent à eux deux un très grand nombre d'innovations cosmétiques ‘naturalité high tech' (biotechnologies marines, cellules souches marines, micro algues à fort pouvoir anti-oxydant et anti-radicalaire, argiles sous fragmentées, poudres de pierres et métaux précieux...), nous avons décidé de créer un focus sur ces deux familles d'ingrédients et de réunir autour de cet espace une douzaine de fabricants et distributeurs d'ingrédients cosmétiques.

An original management strategy
The consulting firm Cruchon Développement is deploying Lean Speed Up® ', a new method for managing innovative activities. Aimed specifically at young companies and SMEs, as well as larger companies looking to develop new lines of business, this method facilitates the design, approval and rolling out of an efficient business model. This management method hopes to better utilise the human creativity and financial resources available to start-ups, preventing wastage, providing the customer with a sought-after product in a shorter space of time and combining customer development with product development. “This method accelerates the development of young innovative companies or indeed new lines of business launching with larger companies. It involves a global approach to supporting businesses based on innovation, international outlook and CSR”, explains Thierry Cruchon.
The X association has announced an operational-collaboration with X. Two working groups are being set up, one more technical and focusing on the evolution of norms in the natural and organic cosmetics industry, (coordinating standpoints with regards to the AFNOR, ISO and Cosmetics Europe) and the other more strategic, focusing on the importance of biodiversity in this field. X, a founding member of the Cosmos-Standard, is offering its expert knowdlege to members of the X association by implementing a frame of reference with raw materials. “Our division for natural and organic cosmetics is experiencing a period of rapid global expansion. It continues to develop and remain organised as it matures. This situation has brought our two separate entities together to collaborate on these two strategic axis concerning our field and therefore, our members', explains Samuel Gabory, President of the X association.
With over 240 exhibitors registered for the event this year, the 10th edition of the Forum Labo & Biotech is set to bring together some 8’500 professional guests from public and private labs. The event will take place from the 4th to the 7th of June in Hall 3 of the Paris expo at the Porte de Versailles. This year, a session from Expert Forum will be highlighting the importance of quality. Organised in partnership with Christine Stemmer from Horizons Qualité, this platform will take place in the form of presentations by laboratory expert witnesses, followed by debates and demonstrations. This 2013 edition will also welcome the SEP congress on separation and coupling sciences, attracting more than 300 specialists in these fields. Please note that the first Trophées de l’Innovation ('Trophies for Innovation') will also be awarded for the best-performing new products displayed on the stands.
Animal Testing: X is listening to their customers
As part of the Picaso Alternatives project, which aims to integrate social concerns into future research strategies, X and its partners are launching a survey for the general public on animal testing and the alternative methods available, in order to gauge people’s perceptions on the topic. This survey (accessible on X) is being funded by the minister of Ecologie in the name of the REPERE programme.
X, the new X sponsor
The 2011-2013 cohort of the Masters Programme in Formulation and Sensory Evaluation, sponsored by X, are working on their final year projects. Students specialising in Cosmetics, Perfume and Food Aromatics have been given the theme of “Travel in Garden: an extravagant garden, showcasing the natural riches of the world”. Why the theme of masculine beauty for the next X?
The X for Beyond Beauty trends will be presenting the future of the cosmetics industry from a male perspective (over nearly 300m2 of the conference). If indeed the “men’s cosmetics” sector is growing across multiple continents, the propositions of brands and distribution networks don’t always seem to reflect these new demands for men in terms of male beauty. New beauty techniques, active ingredients, pledges and claims, packaging, retail spaces, communications and marketing are all points which will be addressed both in this conceptual space and in the corresponding conference section.
Where does this market stand in France and in the wider world?
According to Euromonitor International, global sales for Men’s cosmetics represented nearly 33 million dollars in 2011, narrowly overtaken by hygiene products (37 billion dollars). In Europe, the Men’s cosmetics industry remains the largest and is expected to achieve 7.9% growth between 2009 and 2014, whilst Latin America, North America, Africa and the Middle East are seeing yearly growth in the double figures. Less-developed markets such as Brazil and India could count for 30% and 23% of the market respectively by 2016. In the Middle East, meanwhile, the market is almost as large as that of Women’s cosmetics.
What kind of events can we expect?
A dozen exhibitors will be presenting their new products and innovative ingredients which will be used in the male grooming products of tomorrow including Seppic, Solabia, Minasolve, Induchem, Olsa, Biotechmarine, Stéarinerie Dubois, Berkem, and Effervescence Lab. As for events, Toupie make-up will be holding a “Cover-up for Men” (concealer) workshop, Mintel will be presenting their thoughts on the modern man and their study on Men’s Grooming in a specialised conference. What’s more, Information & Inspiration will be providing their insight into Men’s cosmetics in Asia.
Will there be a link between marine and mineral ingredients? What trends can we see in these areas?
Given that men tend to prefer cosmetic ingredients of marine and mineral origin, both of which have been the subject of a great deal of innovation with regards to the 'high-tech natural approach' to cosmetics (marine biotechnologies, marine stem cells, microalgaes rich in antioxidants and free radicals, fragmented clay, powdered stone and precious metals etc.), we have decided to create a focus on these two families of ingredients and to bring a collection of manufacturers and distributors of cosmetic ingredients together on the subject.
