Hi, pleased to meet you. I'm Rafael, a Brazilian translator specializing in games localization. My main language pair is English (UK, US) to Portuguese (Brazil) and Spanish (LA, Mexico) to Portuguese as well. MemoQ, SDL Trados, Smartcat, and Wordbee are the CAT tools that I work with.
About me:
I enjoy being a translator and my lifestyle somehow contributes to my profession. Besides Brazil, I lived for 3 years in Dublin, Ireland (C1 English Certified by Liffey College), 1 year in Italy (where I currently live), and 6 months in Mexico. Living in these countries helped me to grasp near-native writing, reading, and speaking skills in these languages, bringing accurate, faithful, and smooth writing to my translations.
Game Industry:
I had the opportunity to work in a wide range of games: from Indies to AAA, Mobile to PS5, Football to Strategy. Working with games refined my localization skills, made me sharpen my text for all kinds of public, and pay extra attention to gender and offensive language.
I offer solid knowledge of localization techniques, gender-neutral approach (when necessary), knowledge of placement and insertion of tags, capacity to work under character limitation maintaining a clear text, experience on LQA's (game testing included), and a good IT basis in general.
Marketing and IT:
Marketing and IT, together with games, are the main areas that I work and am more comfortable with. I have worked with SEO (keywords, metatags, researching, analysis, URL, copywriting focused on SEO), translating websites, marketing, and promotional materials, IT (servers, software, systems, storage, hardware).
Automotive:
Before being a translator, I worked for 4 years in Mercedes-Benz Brasil which gave me a good knowledge basis of the automotive area (from passenger cars to heavy-duty). I am also comfortable working with manuals, systems, parts and their applications, models.
