Overall, Teresa Adelson has over 25 years of experience as a translator/interpreter, an organizational development consultant, eLearning specialist, LMS designer and manager, project manager for implementing global and local projects, instructional designer, trainer, distance learning facilitator, and translator/interpreter. Teresa’s skills include knowledge of global cultures, applying start-to-end analysis to learning needs and projects, suggesting solutions, and developing and maintaining relationships. When approaching a project, Teresa focuses on the “from the top-down” analysis, taking into account the end results and their impact on the implementation. When creating training strategies, she applies the adult learning principles and the instructional design guidelines.
Prior to moving into consulting, Teresa worked for Zurich, a global insurance company, for eleven years. She was hired in 2001 to support a global Ariba project implementation on a change management/training team where she created and delivered communication and training for users. In 2003-2004 she supported, co-implemented, created and delivered communication and training strategy and created and delivered training for an online Performance Management System, for which she also acted as second-tier customer support. In 2003-2005 she led the Zurich North America Learning Management System project, collaborating with two other global teams (one in North America and one in the UK) when implementing the system upgrade. During the global vendor selection for a new LMS, she became a member of the global team (and the lead of the local team), eventually working in Switzerland on the functional design of the new system, including the billing process. She was the project manager for the implementation of the new LMS in Zurich North America, co-designing the content migration, designing and supervising the local testing and support as well as designing and delivering the local training of the new system. Teresa also designed training strategies for the Zurich North America Finance, Procurement, HR Operations, and Global Life departments as well as communication strategies, training/web sites for the online employee management, performance management, compensation and eProcurement. Since the training strategies were aimed at internal and external customers, the important part of the training approach was to include the emphasis on the drivers of the customer’s behavior and on meeting the expectations.
Teresa’s strong point is vendor and vendor relationship management as well as global sales training with the emphasis on B2B aspect. Her experience in vendor management stems from her collaboration with the Zurich Procurement Department, where she selected and assessed vendors, managed relationships with them, designed vendor scorecards, conducted periodic assessments of the vendors and participated in meetings during which active steps were taken to improve relationships between vendors and Zurich.
An important part of the global sales training for which Teresa was a consultant and co-designer included emphasis on building valuable relationships with the customer by sales people. As a consultant, Teresa emphasized that sales reps should know their products or services intimately and know how their offering compares with those of their competitors. When co-designing the training, Teresa emphasized the aspect of the difference a product or service will make to customers’ businesses, which became the cornerstone of the training.
Teresa’s career also includes consulting and technical training of 35+ software applications, people management, chairing the Information Processing department, writing ESL programs, and co-authoring an associate program proposal for the State of Illinois for a private business. She has also been translating and interpreting for international translation houses, for the EU group, and for numerous conferences and exhibitions. Prior to coming to the U.S., Teresa was a senior lecturer of English at Technical University of Wroclaw where she taught English, translated, and interpreted at scientific/technical conferences.
Teresa has a Master’s degree from Jagiellonian University in Cracow, Poland (English Literature/Teaching Methods) and another from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois (M.A. in ESL/Linguistics, with doctoral-level courses in Education Psychology). She also holds the LEAN Yellow Belt certification and knows KaiZen methodology. She holds a
Microsoft certification for Office Expert Professional User and the 95 Windows OS certification.
