French term

ostéopénie fracturaire

French to English Medical Medical (general)
The sentence is

La densitométrie du 12.08.2011 montre une ostéopénie fracturaire

I don't understand how densitometry can see fractures.

Thanks for help!

Discussion

Anne Schulz Oct 26, 2012:
The point is probably that densitometric bone density indicates a relevant fracture risk.
Andreas THEODOROU (asker) Oct 26, 2012:
Hi all, thanks for answers. Doesn't the increased fracture risk go without saying? By analogy with "ostéoporose fracturaire", I am inclined to think that "ostéopénie fracturaire " means "osteopenia in person who has had a fracture".
Daryo Oct 25, 2012:
how densitometry can see fractures? What densitometry can see is not actual bone fractures, but changes in bone density that are signs of increased risk of bone fractures voir: "risque fracturaire"

Osteopenia was defined in June 1992 by the World Health Organization. A group of experts decided that condition would mean a bone density that was one standard deviation below that of an average 30-year-old white woman.
