عربي إلى أنجليزي الفن/الأدب الشعر والأدب Contemporary novel
تلون وجه محمود غفلة، وتعطف، وتجزأ إلى قطع صغيرة. لقد تذكر شيئا نسيه منذ زمن. كان لا يعلم ما حدث بعد سفره إلى بلاد الباكستان. تدخل مهدي وأخبره بما حدث عندما قدم والده للبحث عنه في الحارة، والأفلام الإباحية التي وجدها محفوظةً ومحرزةً، وشاهدها كل من أبيه والقاضي والعم سعيد. تنحنح الشاب وتلون وجه بأكثر من لون، ثم قال:

That's right in part, but a straightforward translation of the target item simply didn't yield to anything authentic, or so I felt at least. I wish the translator were a bit collaborative. Anyways, thanks for your input.

Thanks Angie. I know ''wrinkle'' exists as a verb too, but it sounds to me a bit weird to wrinkle one's face intentionally as a reaction to s.t. I will dig into it of course and will let you know.

@Saeed sure. Wrinkles induced by age are different from the intentional wrinkling of the face as a response to internal or external triggers. You can review the definition of wrinkle as a verb and see if it matches your idea of the word. Good luck.

I understand wrinkles can be physical changes as an impact of age or even as a medical condition at any age, but do you think memories can get a face wrinkled?

How do you feel about the word 'wrinkled'? I found out that تعطف الوجه as a medical condition means having wrinkles.

My understanding is these are changes that showed on his face not his head or entire body. Some of the contributions above, though interesting, may not be applicable to the context. Please note that I am trying to initiate a discussion the aim of which is to reach a better understanding of the target phrase and to provide accurate instead of tentative suggestions.

My understanding is this is all about his FACE not his HEAD and emotions of shame related to the videos his dad, the judge and uncle Saeed came to find out and watch later on.
There is an entry for تعطف in المعجم الوسيط as تَعَطَّفَ أَشْفَقَ عليه; hence the suggested above.
