I am editing one of the worst translated texts I have ever seen --more than 20 years of profession, if that accounts for something. It goes to SPAIN.
I have fixed so many mistranslation, I no longer trust anything --it's a 60,000 word job!
This is one phrase that has me doubting.
a description of a WWII building in Norway
"The building was converted into a jail by the Germans with the addition of a fuel room and a guardroom, and a central heating plant was installed."
Their translation (not edited at all):
"El edificio fue convertido en cárcel por los alemanes con la incorporación de una sala de calderas y unas celdas, y se instaló una planta de calefacción central."
What do you guys understand for fuel room (¿cuarto de calderas?); guard room (¿puesto de guardia?), and especially central heating plant (¿central térmica?)

No, esto lo he confirmado. Era una cárcel militar. Es el puesto de guardia de la cárcel, donde recibían a los detenidos de la Resistencia. Pero mil gracias por la sugerencia ;-)

Guard room es el cuarto de descanso del personal de guardia, según mi entender y fuel room debe ser el depósito de combustible

I had seen that one too, but the translation sounded very literal. In Spain, I have seen several large campuses that include their own "central térmica", thus my question... let's see what our peers have to say :-) THX!
