I have to say that I agree with Ralf - 3,500 words is perfectly reasonable for me, with or without CAT and without sacrificing quality. Before going freelance, I worked as an in-house translator, the focus was certainly on quality and our minimum output was 10pp per day, not to mention extensive terminology work to populate the database too!

The good news is, direct clients usually understand better than I thought. I usually try to explain the work flow:

Hi Ursula - Happy New Year!

You\'re right about quality/consistency, but I also think speed can be improved. This obviously depends on the type of job involved, but being able to pre-translate large-sized jobs (e.g. annual reports) while the source text is still being edited, with final changes incorporated at the end of the project, has proven to be a major benefit of CAT tools for me. ▲ Collapse
