I would like the meaning of the end part of this sentence clarifed if possible.

That's a rather direct translation, but hopefully it makes the meaning clear.

Depending on the context, a more natural translation may look something like this: "Participants in this test consented in writing to participate, with full understanding of the test's meaning, contents and purpose."

This is a typical sentence from inclusion criteria of clinical trial. Details may vary, but 試験 should be 'study' or 'trial' and 参加同意を文書 should be '(written) informed consent'. No 'person', but 'subject'. These are kind of 'essential' jargons in this field. Passive/active mode and conduct/carry out are of little significance.
