French term

acte de base

French to English Law/Patents Finance (general) Pledging stock as collateral
"Par acte du........qualifié d'acte de base"

Letter to bank detailing additional stock that has been pledged. Does this simply mean that the deed mentioned is the basis for all further deeds and amendments?

agree writeaway : probably this, can't find much to back my answer-and this is NOT my field./for me legal is solid ground but financial is an accident waiting to happen. I regularly turn down such docs. wouldn't even contemplate accepting them. ;-)

in the context, this is right. This is my field but it is like stepping out in a sort of lexical quicksand.

keep acte de base (basisakte in Belgian Dutch). I am anything but a financial translator, but in Belgium, an acte de base has a specific meaning. I know it from real estate but I can imagine they may mean the same here. I recommend you keep 'acte de base' and give an English explanation in ( ).
