The original text makes little sense unless what they mean is that their particular curriculum is divided into basic sciences and specialized sciences. Either way, this is not an easy choice. Good luck!

: In English "applied sciences" has a very specific meaning that I don't think fits here. Human genetics is in no way a pure science. Then again, the original ain't too great :))
