University degree

academic cycle
Here in Spain it doesn't mean semester (US) or term (British English) - that would be 'semestre'.
Here, a 'ciclo' is much longer, normally 2 academic years. I would translate it as 'academic cycle', or alternatively specify the time period in years or months or whatever.
And 'an academic year' would normally be translated as 'un curso'.
Also, I've never seen semester spelt as 'semestre' in English! A Spanish influence perhaps?

: I am not discounting yr answer. It is a valid one & I thought of it, but opted for semester- it was specific "entendido de que hay 2 ciclos universitarios al año" & it is L/America not Spain; f/more I don't believe you would say "academic cycle I/II"?

Point taken, I guess it all depends on the use of the word 'ciclo' in Latin America. Interesting that it seems to be different, because I don't think using it in that way here in Spain would be understood. Thanks for comments.
