Does it have to do with pipetting liquids? I found this which may help:
When setting the pipette volume always turn the plunger counterclockwise until the volume indicator is 1/3 of a revolution above the desired setting, then slowly turn the plunger clockwise to the desired setting. Always dial down to the desired number. This prevents mechanical backlash from affecting accuracy.

Toujours sur l'idee de la pipette... je suis peut-etre a cote de la question, mais voici les instructions en francais:
Régler le volume : tourner la molette ou le bouton poussoir (dans le sens des aiguilles d'une montre pour diminuer le volume, dans le sens inverse pour l'augmenter) :
- pour obtenir une valeur inférieure au volume initialement affiché à l'écran, venir lentement au volume souhaité en s'assurant de ne pas le dépasser.
- lorsque le volume à régler est supérieur au volume initialement affiché, dépasser d'un tiers de tour la valeur désirée et revenir à celle-ci en s'assurant de ne pas dépasser le volume souhaité.
