Poetic incantation
I would just stick with this personally
eulogy and encomuim are good transaltions of the word but have other meanings and don't usually conjure up images of songs rather of speeches of praise usually after someone has recently died

Discussion
madeeh means "praise", as Mr. Saleh correctly stated. However, I am looking for a non literal translation of the poetic incantations that are sung by people coming mainly from Northern Africa. (and other places)
