German term
am laufenden Band züchten
German to English
Art/Literary
Music
This is from a newspaper article in the 1950s about a German music pedagogue. He specialises in extended vocal work - namely exploring the full range of the human voice, The previous paragraph describes Mr ABC's technique in helping his pupils to develop their voices using non-traditional vocal techniques.
"In der Tat is der raetselhafte Herr ABC in der Lage, Yma Sumacs am laufenden Band zu zuechten (Yma Sumac, durch Gastspiele auch im deutschen Westen bekannt, ist das beruehmte suedamerikanishe Naturlatent, das in der Lage ist, in allen Tonlagen zumindest technisch einwandfrei zu singen)".
I wondered about - Mr ABC is in a position to teach Yma Sumacs a thing or two...as a guess.
Any ideas?

: yes - I would add 'new' though: to churn out new Yma Sumacs, and I'd add an adverbial phrase such as ' at will' or 'one after the other' to make a more natural English sentence...

: the point of am laufenden Band is surely not that it runs constantly but that it is a feature of (repetitive) mass production

turn out non-stop replicas, produce at the drop of a hat, turn out an unending supply
Endless ways of translating this I think. Perhaps some of the above would fit the bill.
Example sentence:
He really does seem capable of turning out Ina Sumac replicas at the drop of a hat.
He really does seem capable of turning out Ina Sumac replicas non-stop.
