Among a list of contacts of a KGB agent in West Germany:
"...должностних лиц и корреспондентами-секретарями фракции СДПГ Винанд, Шульте, советник президента Маркшеффел, представитель фракции ХДС/ХСС Аккерман..."
Is this what we call "corresponding secretaries" in the U.S.? If so, it's news to my dictionaries, Lingvo, and Multitran.

That's what "German News" called Wienand in this series of shorts:
"The trial against the former managing director of the SPD parliamentary group, Karl Wienand, starts today in Duesseldorf. The now 68-year-old is supposed to have worked as a spy for the Stasi (East German secret police) for almost 20 years and to have revealed government secrets and confidential communications to the GDR during that time."

On the other hand, their English doesn't look all that great, e.g., "nuclear testings" instead of "testing" or tests," so who knows. But I believe the position was a bit higher than "corresponding secretary" would express.

The "add note" field came back, so I'll put these remarks where I wanted them:
In German, Karl Wienand is called "frühere Parlamentarische Geschäftsführer der SPD" (Sueddeutsche Zeitung archive), i.e., "former parliamentary manager/managing director/secretary of the SPD." Obviously meaning of the Bundestag fraktion thereof.
Maybe he did hold different posts, but your passage as well as the two sources I saw, one in German and one in English, are all talking about the position he held in the SPD fraktion in the Bundestag.
