「少しぼけかかったような老婦人」と訳されているのですが、少々疑問に思っています。「優しげな」といった意味にはならないのでしょうか？

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

考えすぎかもしれませんが、ミケランジェロの作品といえば、緻密な描写、筋肉でも衣服でも表情でも視線でも動きでも生き生きと表現し、だからこそ三大巨匠の一人と言われるのですが、その天井画があるシスティナ礼拝堂で登場するこの２人の婦人をこのように描写することで、ある意味で周囲と対をなすというか、面白いと思いました。
控えめで柔和な
かなり辛辣な書き方もする作家のようなので「少しぼけかかった」という線もありかもしれません。

印象に残らない
soft (in the head)という見方ができると思います。（前後が分からないので、憶測ですが…）
更にはvagueもあまり褒め言葉ではないので（印象に残らないようなという雰囲気ととれます）、この場合は「ぼけかかった」は訳としては間違ってはいないかもしれませんが、違和感を感じます。
印象に残らないような、人格があまりないような、年寄り女性のstereotypeのような、、、、などのニュアンスを含む言葉が一番良いと思うのですが、どうでしょうか。
p.s. もう一つ、attached themselves toの部分は「勝手についてきた」という感じもするので、やはり彼女達はポジティブにとらえられていないと思います。

「少しぼけかかったような」が、強すぎると思われるのであれば、「ぼんやりした 少しおぼつかない感じの」ではいかがでしょうか。
