Se trata de una película de enorme simplicidad, tanto en su temática, la visión patriótica de la defensa de Zaragoza por parte de los aragoneses ante la invasión napoleónica, como en su estructura, compuesta de tres cuadros de contenido pretendidamente épico; en el último de estos cuadros asistimos a ***una reconstrucción patriótica de baja estofa*** con Agustina de Aragón y los otros figurantes blandiendo banderas mientras unos efectos pirotécnicos pretenden subrayar el heroísmo de los españoles.

The film referred to is Los héroes del sitio de Zaragoza (1904) by Segundo de Chomón, who broke new ground in regard to using special effects in early films.

I know what "baja estofa" means but can't quite get an angle on how to express this chunk. I don't want to say it's "poor quality": how can a reconstruction be of "poor quality"? Maybe the film is, but even so, that's relative (this was 1904 and this was a new phenomenon). I think the idea is more of a film that is jingoistic in the way it deals with the siege - the heroic female, the flag-waving, the drama - all adding up to superheroism.

I want to fudge a bit here, but am lacking is ideas:-)
