Hi Tony. I had rather assumed that this referred to removing the transformer oil, but 40 t corresponds to about 50 m^3, which is a lot of oil, and therefore a very big transformer. Maybe you're right. In the event of doubt (which there is), Bashiqa's "remove" solution is suitably neutral.

: I can't help thinking that they're talking rather about the mass of the trafo, which mustn't exceed 40 t if it is hanging from the lid...?

Core, coils and tank lid are the components of the transformer untanking weight. Such untanking takes place for inspection, maintenance or repair of power transformers.
