English term

each with ramp of 1 column volume

English Science Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng
Context:
“The gradient is 15 % EtOAc in heptanes over 2 column volumes followed by a step gradient to 30% EtOAc then 50% and then 70% EtOAc for 3 column volumes each with ramp of 1 column volume.”

My understanding of the text is that the step gradient refers to 3 stages: 1 column volume of 30% EtOAc, then 2 column volumes of 50% EtOAc, and then 3 column volumes of 70% EtOAc.

Could you please tell me if my understanding is correct or not? Thank you very much!

Correction Now, I've realized that my understanding above might be incorrect. The word “each” may belong to “3 column volumes each”. In other words, the 3 stages are: 3 column volumes of 30% EtOAc, then 3 column volumes of 50% EtOAc, and then 3 column volumes of 70% EtOAc. However, I am still confused with the phrase “with a ramp of 1 column volume”. You help would be highly appreciated. Thank you!

Although not an expert, I believe that you have correctly understood.

3) 30% for 3 column volumes
4) ramp from 30% to 50% over 1 column volume
