Info

The marine ecosystem known as the kelp forest can be found in cold, coastal waters around the globe. Giant kelp represents brown algae (Phaeophyta) that can reach lengths in excess of 35 meters. Massed strands of these plants have been described as being similar to terrestrial forests, since they provide habitats for species from the benthic zone through the euphotic zone and throughout the canopy at the surface.
