Russian to English Science Astronomy & Space Constellations, Pleiades
How should I translate "Процессию" and "замыкают" in the following phrase?

Neither "precession" nor "procession" make sense to me in this context, which is dealing with the celestial behavior in the Pleaides as seen in the spring in Central Asia.

What am I missing here?

Discussion

Judith Hehir Dec 5, 2009:
Thanks, James. All of that is helpful.
James McVay Dec 5, 2009:
Sometimes a picture can help. See a photo and map of the Pleiades here: http://www.glyphweb.com/esky/clusters/pleiades.html. I see four stars on the right, with the remaining three sort of trailing off to the left. That approximates the Russian description, which plays off the mythology given in the text.
Chris Lovelace (asker) Dec 5, 2009:
Here's a larger piece of the context, if it helps (Ursa Major, CL)

I don't think a "gravity-induced change in trajectory, period, etc." works here. Rather, this is some sort of occlusion or occultation, I think. But again, I lack the tchnical term for this.
James McVay Dec 5, 2009:
Definitely not "precession" In astronomy, precession refers to a gravity-induced slow but continuous change in an astronomical body's rotational axis or orbital path.
Judith Hehir Dec 5, 2009:
Interesting. That search also produces "precession," which, apparently, Chris already discovered. Hmmm. I wouldn't know the difference between the two (pre- and pro-cession, that is). Any astronomers out there who can help?
James McVay Dec 5, 2009:
Actually, I think you can use "procession." Google "procession of stars" +astronomy and see what you think.
Dr Lofthouse Dec 5, 2009:
Alcyone?

Sorry, I have not removed the unnecessary, also "three".

You better check in your dictionary -"ungrammatical gibberish "-that is about talking not writing, you are not the one to judge it anyway

Not sure. But I found "progression" in the following:

Thanks, Misha. I'm not sure. I don't know astonomy at all. I thought "series, sequence" at first, but I think it might be about actual movement.
neutral Jack slep : Procession of stars; I know astronomy. I'm Capricorn. But seriously "procession of stars" is the right term. See my answer
