In order to save fuel and improve efficiency for drivers all over the country, Eaton and General Motors Corp. developed Displacement on Demand, an innovative train technology that improves the fuel economy of V8-powered vehicles by as much as 12%.
Through the interaction of two key components — a deactivating roller follower (DRF) and the lifter oil manifold assembly (LOMA) — Displacement on Demand enables the engine to seamlessly deactivate half of the engine’s cylinders when full power is not needed, improving fuel efficiency. The unique system changes the engine’s displacement based on the performance required, and can shut down cylinders without any discernible change in performance.
