This is in a description of an architecture to implement Web Services in a banking environment. Here is the full sentence:
"Le sch�ma ci-dessous montre une architecture applicative d�une application Web avec une interface Client L�ger (JSP / Servlet) et exposant la partie m�tier avec des services Web."
What is the "partie m�tier" in English, and with what term is it used in contradistinction? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Altermatively "functional" instead of business, but the usual equivalent for métier is business.
