I have two diagrams that show how the weft threads of two different colored threads meet in a weaving. There is no other context except:

Where the color areas join, the different color yarns interlock at the point where they both reverse direction. This gives the vertical joints between color areas a toothed or dovetailed appearance. The weft-faced/discontinuous weft technique is called tapestry weave.
Toothed vertical joints between color areas on a somewhat coarsely woven rug (left) and a finely woven rug (right.) Horizontal joints (parallel to wefts) are not toothed.

: Yes - toothed is a generic term for any 'jagged' pattern in weaving (eg: http://en.texsite.info/Dogtooth_checks_pattern;_hounds_tooth... ).
