@ Nicole: So your husband is lucky enough not to know some of the dreadful extremes of the modern food industry. Ever heard of the infamous Turkey Twizzler? Google a picture of those and you'll know why my children pack lunches for school ;-))

I discussed the German term with my husband (Who is a chef) and from his point of view there is no equivalent in English (US). Why not leave the Term and explain?

barbecue turkey twists

Difficult without seeing a picture. But in BBQ season I have seen 'twists' in UK supermarkets that are very similar to the 'Grillzöpfe' I know from Germany.
And of course it is barbecue or BBQ, but not 'grilled', that is something completely different!

Braided grilled (barbecued) turkey

Braided is the term used when you cut meat or fish into long strips then braid like a pigtail. Sometimes its put on skewers
