Catalan term

esdevé un dels itineraris paradigmàtics

Catalan to English Other Tourism & Travel
En aquest espai es concentra la densitat més alta d’estructures de pedra en sec de l’illa de Mallorca, amb espectaculars camins empedrats i marjades d’olivar, motiu pel qual esdevé un dels itineraris paradigmàtics al voltant del patrimoni de la pedra en sec.

:)

Mmm. Not too sure.
Rachel Spencer Jun 21, 2010:
It's paraphrasing quite a lot, but what about something like:

which makes/making this route one of the best examples of the island’s dry-stone heritage.

My issue with this, though, is that, strictly speaking, is whether or not a route can be an example of something.
Rick Larg (asker) Jun 21, 2010:
Al voltant de So far, I'm toying with the idea of "as far as dry-stone walling is concerned". (My first draft starts off the relative clause with "which makes this...." . It's the bit in the middle that ¡s causing the (mini) angst.
Gary Smith Lawson Jun 21, 2010:
Yes, Rick, looks like one of those texts that needs a total change in the translator's style from the original to avoid boring the end reader to death. ;.)
Rachel Spencer Jun 21, 2010:
What about, then, "making it one of the most characteristic routes".. Out of interest, how are you translating 'al voltant de', here?
Rick Larg (asker) Jun 21, 2010:
Long adjectives What I would really like to do is find a way to get the meaning across without using these terribly cumbersome adjectives! Any ideas?

Proposed translations

4 mins

becomes one of the paradigmatic routes

'esdevenir' means to become, and I prefer 'route' to itinerary in touristic context

+1
3 mins

it has become one of the archetypal itineraries

you may want to change the tense.

...or say exemplary etc. instead of archetypal, but I'd avoid "pardigmatic"! Obviously written by a funcionary...
