Birth certificate

Spanish to English Law/Patents
Terms in a Mexican birth certificate:
... en el acta No.xxxx levantada por el C. Oficial______ del registro civil.
Question: What does the "C." stand for?
Name of the child:
Nombre: MA. APOLINAR GALLEGOS.....
Is the "MA." for "María"
At the foot of the page:
OBSERVACIONES: ELABORO:MERR
The "MERR" is written over by what looks like a small "rúbrica" or initials. Is this the person who filled out the form?
Thanks to all

Robert, I believe the C. stands for "ciudadano"... I have generally

translated it as "clerk of the registry"
MA, does in fact stand for María
Elaboro: I have translated this as: "processed" and the MERR stands for the initials, I believe.

Hopes this helps. Saludos Maria ;o)

"Ciudadano"

The "C." stands for "Ciudadano" (citizen)which is a common title in Mexican documents. It is normally omitted in the Eng., as is Lic. (licenciado). So you can just put "by the civil registry official/clerk".

Ma. is the standard abbreviation for María.

I *guess* MERR is the person who filled it out, but w/o actually seeing the document, I couldn't be sure.

I translate several Sp. birth certificates a week.

C. stands for "Ciudadano" - citizen; Ma. for Maria; prepared by MERR

MERR is possibly the initials of the person who filled out the form.

Hope this helps.

"C" -MA-MERR

"C" stands for centro - MA stands for the first letter of the first name and second name, in mexico registry the last name is whats important. MERR is the initials of the person who wrote or typed the document.

C ciudadano, Ma Maria MERR iniciales del que firma

Drop C in English. Write Maria. Write MERR as illegible signature and initials.

Don't have anything to add; just happy to see that when I translate birth certificates in the midst of books and power plant specifications I have lots of colleagues.
