the scheme starts to unravel
This is the definition given by Bujas, Veliki hr-eng rječnik.
It is almost a literal definition -- a ball/skein of wool or yarn becomes unrolled/unravelled.
It would be good to know the context -- is something being revealed, or is the situation falling apart (a plan going wrong, for instance)?
My suggestion fits the second context.
Your context will determine how to translate "klupko" -- plot, scheme, plan, etc.
Interestingly, in many of the instances I found online, either interpretation would work! Mostly used with regard to criminal activities being discovered.
(My apologies for writing in English.)
