French term

information du maître d’oeuvre par le service Expédition

French to English Marketing Transport / Transportation / Shipping Goods returns
This is the specifications for haulage contracts for a company XXX manufacturing packaging materials. I'm having a slight problem sorting out the meaning - paraphrasing welcome:

Conditions de retour
Suite à réclamation, le Client de XXX peut demander le retour de tout ou partie du tonnage livré au site d’expédition de XXX.
Ces retours seront acceptés qu’après accord de notre service Commercial donné au Client, et **information du maître d’oeuvre par le service Expédition** du site concerné.

Yes, in fact I'm using "contractor" for maitre d'oeuvre in this case
claude-andrew (asker) Mar 28, 2011:
Ah ... of course, "information" here means "informing", and not ... "information". Thanks Tony.

the Project Manager being informed by the Despatch Dept.

This is one of those cases where the FR expression uses a noun, which makes it awkward to render in EN, and it's much better to change it into an expression using a verb (active, for preference, though here that's not easy!)

My suggestion above is only to give you the general idea, of course, you'll clearly need to re-work the whole sentence to fit it in neatly.

Of course, 'maître d'œuvre' is one of those words that will need to be translated by whatever term you have adopted elsewhere in your document.

I think I'd go for something like "... and on condition that the Despatch Dept. of the site involved informs / has informed the..."

I don't see why not, it makes perfect sense to me, and fits perfectly in the scenario as well.

carrier's designation by the shipping department

information du maître d'œuvre = désignation du transporteur en charge du retour
Note from asker:
This is certainly a valid interpretation, but in my context it's almost certain that the same carrier would be responsible for returning the items as for delivering them in the first place. But I'll bear it in mind
