French term

acteurs en séance dédicace

French to English Marketing Advertising / Public Relations
Ok, I'm a bit stumped here. This phrase occurs in a proposal for a major European household electrical goods retailer to set up a store at a big site. It comes up in a bulleted list of "things" that the company will do as part of their sales promotion:

• Grande ouverture évènementielle
• Concours divers
• Site internet
• Démonstrations diverses: gaming, cuisine, musique etc.
• Promotions de vente en permanence
• Cours d’Apple
• Acteurs en séance « dédicace »

I'm really chewing my pencil about this last one - so any help would be most gratefully received!

actors' autograph signing

Assuming that for some reaosn they are referring to real actors (rather than 'players' in some kind of activity), I'd say it is usually autographs that personalities are likely to be signing — Cf. the recent 'sortie' on TF1's « Carré Viip » telereality programme!

Although it's probably not given as such in the dictionaries, I've very often heard 'dédicace' used in colloquial language on TV etc. for 'autograph', especially when they are in the form of signed photos, for example.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : Generally speaking, I'd say it's only authors who sign books, while actors tend to sign autographs, don't they?
