This is in a document concerning a symposium about 'patrimonialisation' of mining. I'm not sure how to translate 'application', is there some suitable paraphrase or should I just just omit it?

reference mines
Karen, I am suggesting 'reference' here taking into account the overall project aim - the 'patrimonilisation'. I take this to mean an effort to increase the cultural or other value of these mines, hence using reference ones in various countries/locations to illustrate this value.

just two options with such a poor context
There are plenty of possibilities here. You can see the whole text content but we do not. Context or further info would be useful to help you.
wish the above can be at least a starting point ...

Given the extra info you provided us with, I think another prospective option may be: relevant mines /relevant pits
as suggested by Phil.

Previously, I didn't know they were real mines sites.

Yes, sorry I forgot to type the sentence - I've put it in the discussion entries with further information |
Discussion
Could "application" refer to be an application being made to include a mine (a mining site) on a list of mines that are "protected heritage"? I hardly see other options that would make sense.
"Patrimonialisation" won't mean anything to most English speakers.
With a wider context, it might easier to understand what kind of 'application' we are talking here.
