French term

mouches

French to English Other Textiles / Clothing / Fashion tailoring terminology
"Recommandations retouches: On doit reposer les mouches cousus à la main"

This is from a French men's tailor and in the document they give recommendations on alterations to be made; it concerns the alterations to the bottom of (dress) shirts and what to do after shortening the shirttails. There is even a picture, although its not terribly clear. After many internet searches that turned up mostly bad puns on motus et bouche cousue, I'm fairly sure that its the small bit of fabric that reinforces/covers the bottom of the side seam on a men's finely tailored shirt. I'm just not sure what that is in English, if it has a name.
Anybody know?
Many haute-couture thanks,
Kate

Oops! I had forgotten/didn't look when I posted the Kudoz link, that I had said "butterfly gusset" there too ;-)

I know that Haute-Couture often orders pieces of embroidery that are placed afterward on fabric.
Example sentence:

FLY STITCH = point mouche

Note from asker:
Thanks Mathilde. From the picture it doesn't look like the embroidered ones, but I think they use those at other places on their shirts, at the cuff openings for example. Now I know what to call those, too when I come across them!
