I am translating a whole-body PET scan report. The following appears under the heading “Sphère ORL”: “Présence de plusieurs adénopathies infracentimétriques cervicales bilatérales, situées principalement en jugulo-digastrique ainsi que dans l’aire 5 bilateralement”. I don’t know what an “aire 5” is (i.e., area, zone or region) in this context. The report is from a Canadian source.

Anatomic Localization of Abnormalities

A total of 155 areas with abnormal FDG uptake were identified with PET alone. PET/CT image fusion improved the anatomic localization of 98 (63%) of these lesions. Characteristic examples included the differentiation between increased FDG uptake in lymph nodes versus that in skeletal muscles (in particular in patients who had previously undergone radiation therapy or surgery), exact assignment of lymph node stations (level I–VI) for nodal metastases, differentiation between physiologic unilateral vocalis muscles activity versus laryngeal tumor, malignant lymph node uptake versus unilateral salivary gland activity, and FDG uptake in fat tissue versus that in the lymph nodes.

And this excellent PPT refers to "surgical zones"
