German term

Gegenbestätigung

German to English Bus/Financial Law: Contract(s) General Terms and Conditions
Gegenbestätigungen des Käufers unter Hinweis auf seine Geschäftsbedingungen wird hiermit ausdrücklich widersprochen.

"Confirmation to the contrary" sounds really strange to me. Does anyone know an elegant and English-sounding translation of this GTC provision?

Many thanks in advance!

Diana Obermeyer Feb 27, 2020:
I just stumbled across this discussion.
Counter confirmation doesn't have "native hits" either.
I would just paraphrase: We expressly object to confirmations under reservation of the Client’s own terms and conditions.
Trudy Peters Nov 29, 2012:
Nate The German sentence is correct as it stands. You have to read it as *(den) Gegenbestätigungen wird widersprochen.*
nate lanu Nov 28, 2012:
I try to explain better, if it was"Gegenbestätigungen" it should be "werden widersprochen" not "wird", but "gegen Bestätigungen ...wird widersprochen" is correct
Diana Zehetner (asker) Nov 28, 2012:
"Confirmation to the contrary by the" returns 9 hits on Google of which 8 are from German and Swiss companies...I am sorry but that does not sound that good...

Confirmation to the contrary by the customer with reference to his/her/its own general terms and conditions or terms and conditions of sale is expressly rejected.

The co. is in Taiwan, but I see nothing wrong with "Confirmation to the contrary." Lots of ghits.
Diana Zehetner (asker) Nov 28, 2012:
Positive, I have checked and it appears like this in a number of GTCs but the English translations are clumsy and do not make much sense. Thanks
nate lanu Nov 28, 2012:
are you sure it is not an error and should be "gegen Bestätigungen"? if so, it would be "widersprechen gegen"

There are a few examples of this on www.linguee.com, spelt variously as two words, one word or hyphenated.
