Hideki Koshizuka Nov 29, 2012:
Hi,

I couldn't come up with a good translation for 'up' in the sentences given, so I posted the link/explanations in the discussion. I will put it up in the answer, as you suggested
alajaponaise (asker) Nov 29, 2012:
Hi Hideki-san, thank you for these links. That's exactely what I was looking for. Why didn't you post as answer..??
Hideki Koshizuka Nov 29, 2012:
hello there. Up is a term to refer to the content that is printed onto the single page, and when they say multiple ups, they mean that those contents are printed on a single page, multiple times.

Here is a couple of links to printer jargon glossary "http://www.dsm-design.co.uk/Default.aspx?pagename=printer-ja...

and

In Japanese, they use the phrase like "N in 1印刷" (N-up printing).

If you google "プリンター用語、アップ", you will find a couple of pdf's that can give you guidance with printer terminologies in Japanese.

Cheers!
alajaponaise (asker) Nov 29, 2012:
Hi Steven, the source is in English. "Up" is something to print on a sheet, I guess. Thank you for your help.
Steven Smith Nov 29, 2012:
Is the source English or Japanese? And is 'up' uppper or lower case?

単面(多面)

はがきやチラシ、ラベルなどで、割付印刷機能を使うときに、x-up per page (sheet) という言葉を使います。この場合だと、single up job が単面で(片面・両面の片面とは違います)、multiple ups が多面(付け)の印刷です。

As explained in the discussion, up(s) is the content which is printed multiple times on a single page, or contents of several pages printed onto a single page. The links provided below help to explain the meaning of the term in English.

Also, google "プリンター用語、アップ”

and you will find on the first page of the results, a useful pdf file for printer terminology in Japanese.

Thanks!

"two-sided front (back) cover for single up jobs" would be 「単一データを表紙(裏表紙)両面に印刷」

"printing multiple ups side by side, printing more than two ups on a page"
データを複数隣あわせで印刷/1ページにデータを二個以上印刷 etc.

Depending on the print job, it seems that the translation can also be "画像"etc. I put データ since this is more generic when referring to print job contents.
