Discussion

'Stosunki patronalno-klientalne' is a historical term referring primarily to the Republican society of Rome but is equally good for Elisabethan England. Those relationships are referred as ties of patronage, wherein the rich and powerful patron has a number of adherents with traditional ties that are perhaps not as strict as actual feudal ties (there are no subjects and lords, masters or servants here), but they are nonetheless strong traditional ties sometimes spanning entire generations. The term is perfectly existent in English – one just needs to look at history rather than modern law.

ties of patronage

Można i "patron-client relationships", ale "ties of patronage" będą lepsze, jeżeli kontekst jest bardziej konwerwatywny, poważny. "Patron-client relationships" mogą IMHO brzmieć trochę jak tłumaczenie.

PS. ;)

business relationships, relationships involving proteges and clients

The Polish phrase is really strange, but i would translate it this way.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Łukasz Gos-Furmankiewicz : There is absolutely nothing strange in the Polish phrase, nor are business relationships involved herein in any way.
