Hi all,

Mexican Spanish into UK English please.

I can guess what the position is/does but not sure of the best equivalent in English.
It's the man/woman in charge of gaining new clients (I presume) but I've also seen connections with "headhunting" but that doesn't make any sense here.

Sorry I can't give any more context as it is very confidential and the whole document is only 150 words. No mention is made of the person's duties (it deals with an "extra-vocational problem").

Explanation:
"Gerente de conquista" does seem to be a Portuguese term, as Liz notes. References are few, but I also agree with her that it seems to be about winning clients.

I tend to agree with Robert that this is more specialised than a Business Development Manager, whose responsibilities do include generating new business but also range more widely. The term I'm finding here is "capture manager" or "engagement manager".

I freely admit that I don't know enough about business to be sure of the difference between capture and lead generation, but I find that in Spanish the expression "generación de leads" is widely used (similar expressions are used in French and Portuguese too), and I reckon that there's a distinction. Generating leads is the first stage; turning them into clients, "conquering", "capturing" or "engaging" them, is the next.

I'm finding a good number of references to "capture managers", both in the UK and the US. They're discussed on this page (a UK management consultancy blog). Here's the first bit of the description (the rest is very enlightening too). It starts about halfway down the page:

"For this reason, I regularly see a distinct and separate role, variously described as an engagement manager, capture manager or programme executive, assigned to large IT bids. I'll describe this under the heading of engagement manager, as its the one I'm most familiar with, but the other labels are also in common parlance.
The role of the Engagement Manager is to develop and lead opportunities (normally “complex” in nature) from initial campaign planning - market analysis, through execution, and onto the first months of transition and “go live”. Ideally, they are industry or sector aligned to ensure that they are able to speak the customer's language and understand their business challenges from experience."

Perhaps the bit I've quoted here doesn't quite make it clear that we're talking about client engagement/capture here. Here are some further references that are a bit clearer. This one's for an insurance company:

Asker: Thanks Liz, in general, nearly all the info I could find was also on "linkedin".... Do you think that BDM is equivalent? Do they actively seek out new clients and not just ensure that current relations are running smoothly? (My understanding of "identifying new leads" would be potential new products/research avenues as oposed to clients.)
